Digital camera reviews of Garmin Portable Friction MountDigital camera Review: "Bean Bag" Mount for Nuvi Summary: 4 Stars
It works fine, and was as expected. I would have given it five stars if it had a up and down swivel on the post like the suction cup mount has. I knew this before the purchase, however, so it's not a complaint. It stays put during all "normal" driving maneuvers, and some abrupt ones as well.
Digital camera Review: "Just Buy It" Summary: 5 Stars
For what this GPS will do and for it's current price..."Just Buy It" now before they run out.
It's great.
Digital camera Review: "Portable" also means "Safe & Stable"... Summary: 5 Stars
...when you use this Friction Dashboard Mount to hold your Garmin nuvi as you drive confidently on unknown roads. It stays firmly in place when you make sharp turns, go up or down hill, apply the brakes hard, get up more G-force than you should on Highway on/off ramps... I love the squat, ugly, flexible little thing! Yes, that's right, my only criticism is that it isn't elegant - but it does have character and feels like a friend.
The Mount protects your GPS Navigator. The dashboard of my '97 Ford Mustang has a 'dome' sheltering all the -ometers & whatnots in front of the steering wheel; the dash also slopes elegantly over to the passenger side. In other words, friction-proof or not, a flat mount would be a sure way to have your nuvi slipping, sliding, and flying all over the place.
ANY driver of the car can adjust the position of the Mount safely to suit their height without obscuring view of the road. This is the best portable mount I have seen - bar none.
Digital camera Review: 100% Summary: 5 Stars
This product is as all the reviews say it works well. It does not slide on a dash. Rare to find a product which is 100%. This is one.
Digital camera Review: 100% Better than the Suction Cup Mount! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this for my Garmin Steetpilot c530 as the original suction cup mount was terrible. It worked well to begin with until it became frozen to the glass on the windsheild after 1 week of 70 degree fall weather. Once I finnaly got it removed, it never worked right again as the rubber suction cup was damaged. (This will happen in hot or cold weather I have been told.)
My dash is not exactly flat and has a slight contour to it (2004 Toyota Camry) and this stays put with no sliding, even on higher speed turns. This is definitly the way to go, and worth the $25 or so extra cost. A+
Garmin should really include this style mount with their units and scrap the other windsheild mount (or re-design it with better rubber compound to withstand the sun and cold).
