Here in California it is illegal to drive with your GPS on the windshield - besides if you leave the holder on the window, thieves will know that you have one and break in thinking it is in the glove compartment or under the seat. My Garmin 550 C Street Pilot stays in place and it is easy to detach and take it with me when I leave the car. Too bad the the mount itself is too big to put in my purse, but it is easy enough to stash in the car when I leave. I usually put it under the floor mat. Keeping this up on the dashboard where I can clearly see the traffic at the same time as I see the GPS system is a life saver! I'ts always at a comfortable eye level and I don't have to ignore the traffic to look down at it. It's so adjustable and moveable that I wouldn't ever want to use any other kind. If the hot sun glares in on the dashboard you can turn it in less than a second and have a better view of it. For the sake of safety ..,get it, you'll LOVE IT!Digital camera Review: A Lifesaver

I recently moved and am heavily dependent on my GPS. This device hugs the dashboard and has not fallen off. Those that stick to the window tend to dry up in hot weather and dump the GPS on the floor. It is easy to remove from the dashboard at each stop and replaces easily when I start the next leg of my trip. This is important as I would not be able to get home from some of the places I have visited if the device was stolen.Digital camera Review: A Little Awkward

It does what it's supposed to do but it could have been designed better.
The snap in ball thing is awkward and takes some force to get it in. It would have been much better also if the actual holder folded down so I didn't have to take it apart whenever I need to put it away in the glove compartment.
Also, I found it odd that the charging wire goes in the back.

This is my second Garmin GPS and mount. The GPS is great but watch out for the mount. My first one flew off the dashboard so many times, the old GPS couldn't take an address although it worked in all other respects.
A self stick square of Velcro on the dashboard and the bottom of the mount is all it took to never have this happen again. I should have done it a lot sooner and I'd still be using my 2004 GPS now.
