Digital camera reviews of Garmin Streetpilot C550 2.1-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorDigital camera Review: Best I've seen so far. Summary: 5 Stars
This GPS is the first I have ever owned, and I'm glad I waited. It was easily used right from the box, without even looking at the instruction manual. It has a readable screen in almost any light, clear directions with plenty of warning of upcoming turns. The included traffic monitor is indispensible for driving in metropolitan areas. The satellite reception is good, even in my heavily wooded neighborhood. The maps have so far been accurate with streets under 2 years old. An incredible value for the money, and better, I think, than the systems that are available preinstalled in cars today.
Digital camera Review: Better Than Expected Summary: 5 Stars
I read some of the other reviews after I purchased the C550 seems there are quite a few people who have some minor problems with making there's opperate to it's full potential. No problems right out of the box I was looking for the map CD there wasn't one. Already programmed for north America. I bought this to replace my C330 that lasted the good part of 3 years before it started messing up. Alot of the work I do requires going from address to address in neihborhoods all over the state and sometimes "BFE" these GPS's are a real time saver I used my 330 just about everyday of the week (Home Repair/ Handyman Business)Map books are a thing of the past. Like I said before right out of the box this thing works as promissed. The bluetooth paired with my samsung blackjack right away(AT&T). That sure makes life alot easier and safer since my truck has a 6 speed manual trans. I thought about ordering the extention mic. but so far I've had no complaints about the clarity of my calls on the other end and the volume in the cab is more than sufficient. A little ata boy for Amazon I ordered it on the 28th of Aug. 08' and was told I'd have it on the 4th. of Sept. but got it on the 2nd. can't complain about that.
I do have one complaint though I tried to register it with Garmin online and there website doesn't seem to recognize the serial number or model number of the C550 what's up with that I went so far as to plug the unit in to my PC follow there direction and downlaods but stil can't register it. Anyway at $160.00 you can't go wrong with this unit.
Digital camera Review: Better than not having a GPS but lousy software design Summary: 1 Stars
Good touchscreen and simple menu's do not make up for serious flaws in design -- all directions disappear when connection to satellite is lost (this happens often in metropolitan areas). What would be better is when the conection is lost only your location should should stay the same but the directions prior to the lost connections should continue to be displayed; directions are listed using north/south etc instead of right and left turns; directions only show next turn even when there is an immediate turn after the next turn; zoom out is very limited.
Digital camera Review: Better than wildest expectations Summary: 5 Stars
Took the garmin to seattle as soon as we got it. Used it to find restaurants, malls, and went home shopping and it found every address. Got us effortlessly around traffic jam for a demonstration and quickly and effectively re-routed us when I missed a turn. Never lost gps connectivity anywhere in the car, tall buildings, trees, even inside the hotel room near the windows. Simple to use. Speaking commands is a huge benefit so I could keep eyes on the road. At 60 I am becoming hearing "challenged" but the speakers provided loud audible commands. A few humorous errors such as calling north Dr north "doctor" instead of north drive. I can live with that. Fun to use. Worth every dollar. Would like more option for mounting. On our Maximim it was in the way on the winshield or too far away to reach. Adhesive mount looks a little tacky on the dash of a Maximum. Bean bag slides arounds. Portability is nice since we use it in both of our vehicles. The Maximum has blue tooth but I use the bluetooth on the garmin in my vehicle and it works great. Could go on but you get the point. Best and most useful piece of electronics I have purchased since my first computer.
Digital camera Review: Boomer Toy? NO! Boomer GOT-TO-HAVE! Summary: 5 Stars
What a handy gadget! Easy to use, quick to set-up-- how did I get along without it! I love the Bluetooth -- handsfree aspect. I am on call many evenings, it is hard to answer a cell phone in the dark, driving down the road-- this great little device allows me to get my call when the phone rings safely, rather then fumbling in the dark for the cell phone or looking for a place, which may not be convenient or desirable, to pull over! We are going to buy a second one just like it so we have one in each car!
