Digital camera reviews of Garmin eTrex Carrying CaseDigital camera Review: A MUST have for your caching Summary: 5 Stars
The case is a perfect fit and a nice addition for those treks in the wooods and weeds to find you next geocache. Protects your GPS unit nicely.
Digital camera Review: A great cover Summary: 4 Stars
I was a little skeptical of using this cover at first but since it came as part of the package deal I thought I would try it. Now I feel it is well worth it. What it gives you is protection from screen scratches and a belt clip for holding the gpsr hands free. In addition the padding gives you a better grip on the unit. You don't have to remove it to use the cable for downloads and all the buttons are uncovered. (You do have to remove it to install fresh batteries.)
Digital camera Review: A hiker of the great NW... Summary: 4 Stars
I think this case is very nice. You can access all the buttons and the click stick with ease, the only problem is it seems to slide down into the case every now and again and you have to pull it up a little to access some of the buttons, and it also slightly blocks the satalite. Other than that, its a great thing to have for hiking around and such! And it works great on a pest or backpack...Its a great thing to have if you have anywere between a Etrex, or a Etrex Vista! It works great on my Legend and thats what I use it for, I also recomend the attackment for a bike, thats a very nice thing for running around town, or if your on vacation and have your bike with you!Enjoy! And buy yourself a Vista or Legend! :)
Digital camera Review: A nice, helpful accessory for etrex Summary: 5 Stars
The Garmin Carry Case for the eTrex and Summit handheld GPS units is a convenient accessory for securely attaching the unit to a belt, backpack loop, or jacket pocket. The case has a clear plastic cover over the GPS screen, a belt clip (stiff spring steel) on the back, and leaves good access to the control buttons. The GPS slides into the case and a Velcro strap secures the case onto the GPS. A small opening at the bottom of the carry case allows the lanyard to be attached. The case is NOT a sealed covering: it just provides some scratch protection and the belt clip.
I have used the carry case to attach my GPS to a loop at the top of my small hydration pack when I am out on training runs. The high position gives excellent satellite exposure, and the carry case clip makes a very secure attachment even when bouncing around while running on uneven trails. I also put the lanyard through a clip as a backup, but I haven't had any issues.
A recommended, helpful accessory.
Digital camera Review: An OK case Summary: 3 Stars
This review applies specifically for use with the Vista C, which has a slightly different form than the other eTrex series or summit. Currently, this is the best case out there for this GPS; unfortunately, that's not saying very much.
1) By far the biggest drawback is that the left and right sides of the upper forty-percent of the case are basically unprotected. One day, I had the case clipped to my belt (see item #3, below) and as I walked to my car, I reached into my pocket for my keys. This knocked the GPS from my belt and onto the pavement. The GPS was dinged on its top-right corner (the plastic pockmarked). Considering I'd had the thing for less than two weeks, this was irksome. Partly just bad luck in how it fell, but the case should have protected it better.
2) The bottom of the side opening impinges upon the lower buttons. You can see that with the current product photos here on Amazon (especially with the view from behind). However, the picture doesn't show a Vista C; the case rides up another millimeter or two with the C.
3) the clip consists of a vinyl-coated metal clasp that holds on by friction only. It basically requires two hands to attach (one to hold the belt), but comes off very easily--too easily. See problem #1. Once, I thought I'd lost the GPS; fortunately, it had fallen off of my belt while I was still in my car.
4) the display window is quite reflective, and it's a little too small for the Vista's display, obscuring it a little on the sides (a problem Garmin acknowledged when I emailed them). This is even more of a problem if used indoors (i.e., transferring waypoints) or in dim lightl; I have to remove the GPS from the case under such circumstances.
Is the case better than nothing? Yep. And it's pretty cheap, too. For the price, it's OK, but it is imperfect at best.
