I was very dissapointed. After reading other reviews and the specs Ii was expecting an accurate GPS device. I found it to be off by 150-250 ft at a minimum. When I was out an about in the mountains, and was close to a waypoint in a canyon, it shifted direction constantly. This unit is not easy to use. It takes some time to get used to. Once you get used to - it is very detailed and powerful GPS. If you are outdoor person and you are not looking for fancy graphics - this is device for you. Very accurate on the road and trails. Battery last forever. You can transfer your tracks to google map or google earth with [...]. It does not come with detailed maps, be prepared to pay more. The detailed maps are not always up to date. And most important Garmin customer service is terrible!!! If you need to call them, you will spent 30 + minutes on the phone just waiting to talk to someone. This is my second Garmin unit - the first one (Garmin iQue 3600 never was working properly). I replaced my original etrex with this Vista and am very impressed with the great functionality of the new unit. I have not yet downloaded any maps but use the base map when I am conditioning my hunting dog. I can accurately track the distance I have walked and assume that the dog has covered about three times that distance. Now I know that when I have covered a mile in the field, the dog needs a rest. As a result of working him within his limits, he is more responsive to commands and hunts better.
Now I look forward to downloading some maps so I can find a lunch spot after the morning hunt.

I have hiked the Appalachian Trail and am presently hiking the PCT. This is the GPS to get. Rugged, reliable, full of features especially good battery power (use lithium). Maps are expensive but if your life depends on it this is the one.
My only disappointment is the cheap rubber strap around the unity which will
detach (use duct tape).
