Digital camera reviews of Garmin nüvi 205W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

Digital camera Review: Best value in wide-screen GPS... plain & simple.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Garmin nuvi 205W is simply a great GPS and the best value of any widescreen GPS. It has a no extra bells and whistles (no MP3 player -LOL, doesn't speak road names - annoying, no maps of Alaska or Canada - not needed, no FM transmitter to listen to MP3 - useless gimmick, etc.). The 205W is a useful widescreen GPS - plain and simple. It has over 6 million POIs (restaurants, lodging, shopping) and can be customized to add your own POIs. It has a trip computer which I used last week on a road trip to Hershey Park which was pretty neat (tracks time traveled, speed, distance, etc.). This newly released Garmin GPS has the new user interface which shows the road speed limit, your speed, next turn arrow and distance to next turn all on the main screen. The mapping information is the best available on the market and will provide you with clear directions on where you want to go. The Garmin 205 (regular screen) and the 205W (widescreen) are both highly recommended - just a matter of preference in screen size.

Digital camera Review: Best value out there!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this for 6 months, and I must say I like it! I've owned Tom Tom's, mio's, used a magellan and won't go back! The screen is excellent, nice size, very quick satellite acquisition, and the best routing by far (the main reason we buy these, right?).

I always thought 4.3 screens were unnecessary, but its so nice when you are turning to see more of the map in the direction you are turning!

Also, I believe the Garmin's are the only GPS's that tell you which side of the street your destination is one, AND usually routes you so that its on your right side. When you are in a city you don't know, this is a must-have feature in my opinion.

Also, POIs are very good, only occasionally does it not find the store I'm looking for.

The other thing I wanted to add was that I was frustrated finding a case that was slim, pocketable, inexpensive, and fits this like a glove. I was psyched to finally find something at Staples that fits it perfectly (for $7 no less). Check out the Case Logic JDS-6 usb shuttle. I know this isn't listed as a gps case, but it works perfectly for this unit.

Also consider getting a vent mount for this, its so nice to have the gps right at your fingertips instead of reaching forward to the windshield.

Digital camera Review: Better than expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been skeptical about just how useful an auto GPS might be since we have been using maps for many years with no problem. Happy to say this unit turned out to be a nice addition.

Nice features, such as one's speed as well as the posted limit (most of the time). Finding points of interest, such as a local Home Depot made life simpler when we were in Durango a week ago and had no idea where the store might be. Spot on. Drove right to it. My wife, who is not a computer person, found it easy and fun to use. Would recommend to anyone wanting a basic easy to use GPS.

Have not tried the upload offer yet so have no idea how or if it will work with an iMac.

Digital camera Review: Brings my hubby home!
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband is "directionally challenged" and has a hard time navigating southern California's highways. Maps just don't seem to make sense to him. We bought him a Garmin as a surprise a few years ago and it made a HUGE difference in his life. Unfortunately some idiot decided to smash his car window and take it. We bought this latest one as a Christmas present to replace the one he already had. My teenaged son said this one has a few more bells and whistles than our old one; all I know is that it works great and my husband can get around to his clients and back home to me. (By the way, hubby keeps it in his glove box when not in use.)

Digital camera Review: Can't save Favorites
Summary: 3 Stars

Good product however, when you try to save favorites, it occasionally freezes up and you have to shut off the unit. You can save a few, then it freezes. Spoke to garmin and they said a patch is coming out soon. Anyone else see this?
