Digital camera reviews of Garmin nüvi 250 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (English/French Version)

Digital camera Review: Quick to pick up signals, embeded with a lot of languages, awesome for non-English speakers!
Summary: 5 Stars

This GPS only displays a small set of languages at startup, however, its setup menu allows you to set up a lot more different languages, including Asian ones. You can even config both the speaking language and display language, great for non-English speaker!

In term of GSP features, I think it has everthing for basic usage. It can detect satellite signals quickly, sometimes within seconds. I am very satisfied.

Things to improve
- Faster processor. Now it takes seconds to boot up and calculate routes. It could be better.
- direction detection in walking mode. If you are walking, this GPS may dectect your moving direction incorrectly unless you walk very fast.

In general, I am very happy with Garmin nuvi 250.

Digital camera Review: The GPS can not do search
Summary: 1 Stars

The GPS can not do search. It take very long time to find place 200 miles away from my location.

For example, if you type "tire", it will find tire store 200 miles from my home.

The one I brought two years ago can do all the search But that GPS some have problem for the touch screen.

So that I need to put two GPS at same car.

Digital camera Review: Too bad, the Garmin nuvi 250 has some very nice features
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought Garmin nuvi 250 for my bicycle (the nuvi 200 series has a very nice bicycle mount available) after getting lost in Brooklyn, but checked to see how it works when using it for driving. The unit I got seems defective. You can't program the unit without stopping and waiting for a signal to lock on. It constantly loses its signal even on bright sunny days. And when you lose signal while driving, the only way for me to lock on a signal was to pull over the side and wait for it. I also lose signal when going under the bridge. I compared it to my old Garmin StreetPilot c580 and the c580 was much better in acquiring a signal and I can change destinations on the fly. I returned the unit and replaced it with a TomTom 140s which is much better when it comes to acquiring a signal. Too bad the Garmin nuvi 250 has very good features for the money like 5 hour battery life when unplug, perfect for biking, the TomTom only has 3 hours. But if it is unable to acquire a signal reliably, it is useless. My boss has the Garmin nuvi 265T and she is very happy with it. I thought about returning the unit and exchanging for the same model but after reading the reviews here, the signal issue is quite common so I bought the TomTom instead.

Digital camera Review: Top Value
Summary: 5 Stars

Best GPS for the buck! Works great from the car console; does not have to be on the dashboard or windshield to receive an adequate signal.

Digital camera Review: Ugly interface
Summary: 2 Stars

Compared to TomTom (any model) Garmins has very ugly and user-unfriendly interface. I personally tried nuvi and returned it.
