We purchased this just prior to a long road trip (1800+ miles). The Garmin 260W was great!!!! Even when I had to detour 'Jill' found my way!!! (By the way, Jill is the female voice of the 260W.) I have owned my Nuvi 260W for 2.3 years. My wife wanted one for herself so I started researching GPS's to find the best one since it's been 2 years for me. After all my research, for the price, functionality, size of screen, the 260W is still the way to go. Nothing fancy, no features that are like "oh...it does that?", but you never use it. I've always prided myself on getting around without any help other than maps and (since the intro of the internet) online directions. I've travelled all around the U.S. as well as Europe and Brasil with those tools. Needless to say I was reluctant to purchase a GPS device because I saw little to no value for someone like me. I did some research and looked for a unit with a widescreen display, TTS functionality, and a good reputation. I didn't need any bells and whistles other than that. So off we went for a long weekend to Montreal. I must say that I brought along my maps and printed directions b/c I didn't trust the device at the onset of our trip. It did take me a while to warm up to the fact that I was relying on an electonic device, not my own brain, to get me to where I needed to go quickly and not lead me on a wild goose chase. I was impressed by the nuvi 260W. The voice was clear, offered ample warning for turns, etc, and was definitely accurate. The display was easy to read and the windshield suction device proved stable for the entire trip. Best of all I didn't need to be in a constant state of "heightened signage alert" and could actually enjoy the scenery and chatting with my family. The nuviW took us to a lot of popular attractions without any issues. We didn't experience any long delays with acquiring satellites either, other than the initial setup. I downloaded the latest map software when I received the device and was able to install rather easily. I would definitely recommend the nuvi 260W for a beginner to the world of GPS who is looking for a bargain device which is accurate and user friendly. I enjoy being able to rely on my brain to navigate me and my family around, but not as much as I enjoy not worrying about missing an exit or getting lost in a rough neighborhood wondering why I just spent the last 1/2 hour and tank of gas driving around when I could have been enjoying it with my family at our intended destination.Digital camera Review: 260w

We had the chance to use this for the first time when we did a trip to D.C. It worked perfectly without any trouble and the big screen is a plus. I was concerned because there are so many to choose from but we made the right choice with the 260W. I am now onto my third Nuvi. The first didn't work out of the box. The second worked for two days and then broke down. This one stopped working when I upgraded the map (as suggested by Garmin). Garmin's online support is entirely unhelpful - they didn't read my email and simply directed me to a 1800 number where the waiting time to talk to someone is 30-45 minutes.
I recommend anyone who is considering a purchase call 800-800-1020 and see how long the wait for product support is. Then read about all the problems with unlocking maps and product registration.
When the product works, it is wonderful, but poor execution kills it. Spend your money elsewhere.
