Digital camera reviews of Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic

Digital camera Review: A bit dissapointed...
Summary: 3 Stars

Everything works fine, but sometimes it does not take me where I'm supposed to got. You may be on a specific freeway and it will continue to say to get on that same freeway...

Digital camera Review: A decent device, but misleading when it comes to fastest route
Summary: 3 Stars

I don't use my vehicle to commute, so I haven't had occasion to use my 265WT until this past weekend. I decided to use it while charging it on the way to my Mom's about a 2.5 hour drive away to see if it would take me via a different route, and if that route would be any better/faster. What I found is that the 265WT guided me to take a single-lane road that took me through many traffic lights on my way to my destination. As I drove, the estimated arrival time displayed on the screen kept changing to be later and later. I think the issue is that the 265WT bases its travel time on the speed limit and distance, without taking into account traffic lights or traffic patterns. This may be a characteristic of all GPS devices... I honestly don't know since this is the first one I've owned. The bottom line is I know that the 265WT will eventually get me where I want to go, but that I can't count on it to take me via the shortest route.

I have used VZNavigator for Verizon Wireless in the past. One thing I liked about VZNavigator was you could tell it to not bypass certain roads/highways. If the 265WT has this feature, I haven't found it yet. However, the 265WT is much more responsive--I often found with the VZ that it would be telling me to turn about 500 feet too late! So far, I haven't encountered this with the 265WT. I think the 265WT will allow me to search for landmarks, such as retailers, movie theaters, banks, etc. But in just playing around with it, I haven't discovered how to do this. I only see how to search for nearby gas stations. It seems to me like it was easier to find all the features on the VZNavigator.

Another problem I had with the 265WT is that it lost satellite reception four times on my trip back home. Each time, the only way to get it to work again was to quit out of the trip and start it again. Since I knew where I was going, this wasn't a big deal, but I could see it being stressful if I was traveling somewhere for the first time.

I wish the volume on the unit could be adjusted to be a bit louder. I'm in a unique situation since I drive an older vehicle without A/C, but it is tough to hear the 265WT with the windows rolled down and/or the radio turned up.

All this being said, I love the portability of the 265WT, and I like the display screen. I loved how it sensed it getting dark outside and adjusted the display accordingly. Maybe I will find that I like the 265WT better once I've had more time to play around with it and discover all its features.

Digital camera Review: A every drivers "must have"
Summary: 4 Stars

The Garmin Nuvi lives up to it's reputation of the best on the market. User friendly and easy to set up it should present no problems to even the most technically challenged !
I first used one on a driving vacation in NZ and realised that it was as indispensable as a mobile phone and ordered one upon my return home.

Digital camera Review: A godsend
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me upfront and say that I'm only reviewing the navigation features of this device. That being said, I'm giving this product five stars for performing beyond my wildest expectations.

Over the last few months I've taken on the responsibility helping my elderly mother go to doctor visits, appointments, etc. All of this has required driving a great amount and long distances to areas that I don't know at all.

To manage this I've been borrowing my wife's Garmin 265W, and it has never failed me. It has been very reliable in getting me to my destination. This unit is very user friendly, and simple to use.

I just enter the location that I'm trying to get to and off I go. I've built up an address book of locations to save me time. It is very quick to respond and reroute me should I miss a turn, or decide to take another route. I've noticed absolutely no lag.

The unit has won me over. Very impressive. It knows where I am, be it a rural community or large city.

On a side note: My mother who's never seen one before was simply amazed at how the "little talking box" gets us around, said that she thought this was "a neat idea that would really catch on". I agree! :-)

Digital camera Review: A great GPS system
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to use, will get you where you want to go and the blue tooth feature very convenient in Oregon where by law you can't hold a cell phone and drive. A great price for an all around useful product.
