The Garmin Nuvi 650 has been discontinued, but it could not have been the result of either function or features. At the current price, the unit is a bargain; the only downside being that the maps will be out of date and the cost of the update is somewhat pricey when you consider that the unit is actually NIB. Maybe small potatoes in comparison with the unit's features and current selling price, but aggravating enough to warrant trimming a star from the rating. A new unit should be upgraded to the latest set of maps for free in my opinion.
The ability to speak street names is a major plus, even though the text-to-voice system mangles some colloquial pronunciations (you can still understand what the unit is struggling to speak). Good audio volume, too. Simple menu system that is easy and intuitive to operate and a swift ability to recalculate the route when you deviate from that assigned, whether by intent or by happenstance, are major advantages. The Nuvi 650 just deals with the change rapidly, whereas another unit I own argues with me and repeatedly insists that I "turn around when you get chance" before finally coming to the conclusion that something must change.
The mount is a good one, and the unit is easy to install or remove; I have installed mine using the dash-top disk rather than on the windshield (though Maryland permits mounting on the glass).
In short: Buy it before they are gone.

This fun little addition to driving sure has made a difference for my daughter. Just after receiving it for Chrsitmas, she took a trip that involved renting a car and driving in a city she'd never been in before. She took her "nuvi" along and she said it turned what could have been a nightmare into a very pleasant experience. She found it very easy to use, even on the fly. It never let her down or steered her into trouble. We actually went out and bought our newly-driving son one as well based on her experience.Digital camera Review: A pretty good deal

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. He likes it but he has informed me that it is a discontinued model so that may explain the great price.
So far it's been working pretty good. We haven't gotten lost yet:)
It seems pretty user friendly and I like the fact that it says the street names.

Prior to purchasing my Garmin nuvi 650 I read product reviews for most of the nuvi units. I felt the 650 was a good product for the price and had all of the features I wanted. Now that I have used the nuvi 650 I am completely satisfied. I don't leave home without it.
