Digital camera reviews of Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser - CANON/NIKON

Digital camera Review: Great, Inexpensive Diffuser!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was hesitant to purchase this diffuser simply because it seemed too good to be true. After using it for about a month and taking hundreds of pictures with it I am most satisfied! Truly a great product for a great price. It fits into my hotshoe mount just fine (Nikon D5000) and effectively softens my pop-up flash.

Much better than a piece of tissue paper!

Digital camera Review: HUGE bang for your 20 bucks
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a cheap little plastic device that claims to greatly improve your flash photos with your pop up flash. It is exactly that. I put this thing on my D90 and was instantly impressed by the results. It actually prevents that pop up flash from doing the only thing it can do..... making everyone really ugly. $20 just turned that useless flash into something very useable. The light is much softer and falls on the subjects in a much more appealing way. Outdoors, it works really well for fill flash. I use flash in rear-sync mode almost all the time, and the puffer makes it easy to blend the flash with the existing lighting.

Keep in mind, a speedlight with a defusor will always give you better results, but you may not have it with you, or not have one at all.

As for the other reviewers having problems with build quality, I have not experienced any of this. I took it out of the package, set it up on my camera with no difficulty, and started shooting. It's in and out of my camera bag all the time, seems sturdy and durrable enough to me. Some reviewers refer to the plastic being to flexible or soft. To me that just means it will be less britle in cold weather, so less prone to cracking. I consider the type ofplastic used a plus.

Big improvement on everyday shots. I would absolutely recomend this to anyone..... again, HUGE bang for your $20.

Digital camera Review: I wish it was better
Summary: 2 Stars

Whenever I use it, there will be a part of the picture which would show the regular flash beyond the coverage of the flash diffuser. It is either the bottom or the top of the picture that would have a brighter flash while the middle part has a good lighting.

Digital camera Review: It broke the first time I used it!
Summary: 3 Stars

I read that it is not the sturdiest diffuser in the world but NEVER did I think it would break within 5 minutes. I popped it in my camera and took a shot. I was very happy with the photo. I tried to pop the diffused off of my camera and thats when it happened. It broke into two pieces. I glued it back together. Maybe I should return it???

Digital camera Review: It does what you would think it would 5 Stars

It softens your on-camera flash. It obviously does not replace a soft box or umbrellas. What it can do is take away much of the harshness of an on camera flash when you don't have/don't want other dedicated equipment with you. Yes it is cheap plastic but what would you expect for the price? Just be careful when you manipulate it.

5 Stars for doing what it purports to do at a decent price.

PS- I am using this with a T2i.
