Digital camera reviews of Genius MousePen 8 x 6-Inch Graphic Tablet for Home and Office

Digital camera Review: A professor finds a solution to merging technology and board space!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a technology enabled classroom and all of the board space is behind the screen. (As a chemistry professor this is very painful!)

For my application, no need for the special software, Vista treats is as another mouse. Plug and go! What a joy to use the Pointer options in Office 2007. I write on my slides and students remain engaged! There are also cool things you can do in Acrobat Pro with your PDF files...zooming is one thing worth doing.

Just watch your writing... the resolution is excellent so you need to take your time with your writing and drawing so it turns out neat. Your hand-eye coordination will improve with time and you will look like a pro.

Digital camera Review: AWESOME!
Summary: 5 Stars

Since I bought a Bamboo about a year ago I like wacom, but it was wearing out so needed a replacement. I was on a budget and seen this Genius and said what the hay and ordered it. I love it! The wacom was great but this one is twice better then the more expensive wacom. You can't beat it for under 50 bucks! I recommened this to anyone doing photo touch-ups, working with CS3, and just everyday e-mailing. LOVE it and it's an awesome product!

Digital camera Review: Absolutely horrible
Summary: 1 Stars

This is by far the worst tablet I've ever used. It may be the cheapest tablet out there, but your money is much better off spent on a better brand.

Every 10-20 seconds or so, the cursor will freeze for about one second. This is a very annoying, and completely interrupts any action you are currently doing.

The pen feels really cheap, and the tip is incredibly flimsy.

The cursor will move when the pen is tilted. For example, when the pen is held at 90° angle to the tablet, the cursor will be in one spot, but if you tilt the pen to a 45° angle while keeping the tip in exactly the same place, the cursor will move. This makes tracing pictures next to impossible.

It does not support dual monitors, so the tablet is stretched out over both screens, making it very frustrating to use.

Whenever I try to use this tablet (and I've tried many times), it's always a constant battle just to make it work. You shouldn't have to fight your tablet. Save your money for a better one.

Digital camera Review: Acceptable.
Summary: 3 Stars

Bought this as a gift for a friend. He had a LOT of trouble getting this to work at first. I told him to get a hold of the company that makes it and he said that they almost immediately just offered to send him a pen, like they already knew what he was calling about. It still didn't work for a while, and then he figured out something in the settings that was conflicting with the operation of it. Now, it seems to work fine. I don't know about the hotkeys or the mouse, but for something for him to just play around on, it seems that he's pleased.

Digital camera Review: Affordable, Easily Installable, Works with Vista, Photoshop CS4, OneNote
Summary: 4 Stars

New owner, first-time digitizer/tablet user here.

Price: very affordable as an extra peripheral
Delivery: quick

Out the box & CD install: The software installation ran smoothly on Windows Vista Home, once I d-clicked "setup.exe" in the enclosed CD. The batteries included were dead so I replaced with my own Duracell Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh AAA Batteries, 4-Pack: one in the mouse, one in the pen. Take care to slide the pen halves apart rather than twist, as the material is not the strongest. With fresh batteries the pen and mouse performed all the checks recommended in the manual. The customization menu was straightforward.

Latest driver install: For my first time using with Photoshop CS4 I'd assigned SHIFT+Letter combos to select Photoshop tools but the customized boxes didn't work as I'd specified. Following manufacturer instructions (at the geniusnet.com website) I uninstalled the current Pen Tablet driver (from the CD), rebooted, downloaded the latest driver from their website, unzipped and installed that, then rebooted again. After this, all my key combo customized areas on the tablet worked perfectly in Photoshop, as well as the pressure sensitivity.

I'm quite excited to continue playing with this and I'm satisfied with the quality of the materials given how ridiculously low priced this item was. Will write back if anything goes wrong with further use.

UPDATE:
+ I think it works better if you plug it into the USB BEFORE you open Photoshop.
+ Also works fine with Microsoft OneNote.
- Sometimes, one of its driver files, WTClient.exe, hogs CPU even when it is disconnected but I only noticed this because I keep my task manager open, not because my pc slowed down or anything, and I just "End Process" if I'm not using it.
