Digital camera reviews of Genius MousePen 8 x 6-Inch Graphic Tablet for Home and Office

Digital camera Review: Best thing ever?
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first tablet. I thought this was a good choice because of its cost, it made sense to me to first try and see what using a tablet feels like and if I liked it, I could always upgrade to a better one if I saw the need for it.

So I had no basis obviously to say whether this tablet is better or worse than other tablets, for all I knew other tablets are even better.

That said I was beyond pleased with this tablet, it was better then I could have imagined.
I expected a learning curve in using it, but I didn't expect to get the hang of it in literally moments.
I highly recommend this tablet.

What made me decide to write this review is this:
Long since then I decided to get a tablet laptop with wacom functionality built in.
But I believe I have discovered that the laptop's tablet functionality is not as good as the Genius tablet.
To the point where I even considered hooking up this Genius to it.

IF I remember correctly, I think one user review on here criticized the tablet for requiring that you press really hard on the pen to get the highest end of the pressure sensitivity.
But this is NOT a flaw, this is a great benefit.
The Genius allows you to get a much higher range of line thickness without having to change pen/brush size settings.
And it gives you much greater control of the thickness of your lines.
The only reasons it should come off as a flaw is because you had your pen/brush size settings tailored to your other tablet, instead of changing them to better take advantage of the Genius. Just because you used settings that were way off for the Genius, is NOT the Genius's fault.
Because the Genius was my first tablet, I did not have this "problem" since my brush size settings were not predefined. I decided on settings around the genius.

I enjoy my tablet laptop but I was disappointed how relatively "narrow" the range of pressure sensitivity is on it compared to the Genius. Even a delicate touch will result in maximum line thickness whereas with the Genius gives you brilliant control.

The only problem is I don't know if all tablets are like my laptop, or if the sensitivity varies from tablet to tablet.
For all I know, wacom tablets (actual tablets) are superior to a tablet laptop.

But I had to write a positive review for this thing, just of the fact that something so inexpensive is possibly better than a tablet laptop.
And because of the possibility that someone might have written off the Genius's greatest strength as a flaw. (ugh!)

Technical information:
We have Geniuses hooked up to Windows 2000 and Windows Vista. The Genius works out of the box but requires the included installation CD to activate pressure sensitivity and the ability to alter tablet settings such as adjusting the working area of the tablet. The tablet caused errors in Windows Vista when the tablet was plugged in while the PC was on, but the errors were resolved when Vista was updated using Windows Update.

Digital camera Review: Bit Annoying, Get's the job done.
Summary: 3 Stars

Since I do a lot of drawing and photoshop related activites, and i don't have a lot of money, i bought this tablet. Installation was a breeze and the mouse works correctly as it should, (although sometimes if i leave it still for a few minutes like when i'm watching a movie it tends to send the curser moving across my screen but that problem is easily fixed by removing the mouse from the tablet.) I love the click to turn on so the batteries don't go quickly, and the ability to lift the plastic on the tablet to put art under it works alright.

My one HUGE problem with this tablet is the pen. As i'm drawing i am CONSTANTLY having to shake the damn thing to hell because the battery keeps wobbling around and my brush strokes in photoshop have to keep stopping. I'm lucky if i can finish a long streak without it having a break in the middle. Wicked annoying especially when i'm on a deadline!

However. I've had this a little less than 3 years and the original batteries it came with havn't ran out yet. (I USE IT EVERY DAY) So good for your money, just deal with annoyance.

Digital camera Review: Bulky and Flimsy
Summary: 1 Stars

The Product is both bulky and flimsy I bought this around Christmas time of 2009, and its extremely bulky. it gives me little space on my desk. A week after buying this the felt on the bottom of the mouse started to fall off and the pen today stopped working. The pen is both difficult and fat. I have kind of small hands because I'm a small person the pen is rather awkward to hold for long periods of time. Putting the battery into the pen is also difficult and rather awkward because you have a long thin metal bar you have to make sure doesn't bend and then a spring for the battery, in which is difficult to place a battery in and keep it there till you put the pen back together. The pen ends to bend because the half of the pen that goes over the battery isn't held on right which I think might be why the pen doesn't work. This is something you get for your 5 year old to play with when they want to learn how to draw on the computer or something. Overall its really easy to break and really difficult to place anywhere.

Digital camera Review: Bummed
Summary: 1 Stars

After such wonderful reviews I was excited to receive this product. However, after just three uses, it no longer works. The mouse still works, only because I tried it out (I usually dont use the mouse) to see if it was the pen, tablet or what. I don't know what's up, but the connection to the pen and tablet is kaput. I used it for just a weekend and barely got the hang of it before it went out on me.
Good luck to all others - it looks like you've got a lot of good reviews to work with.

Digital camera Review: Buyers Beware
Summary: 1 Stars

I just recently purchased this item after debating over the idea of buying the Bamboo (Small) Pen Tablet with Pen Only versus this product. I decided to purchase this product because 1) it provided a larger surface to use, and 2) it was more "inexpensive" than others it's size. Although, I was vary of the 13% that had their systems crash or receive an unusable product. When this item arrived, it was badly packaged. The mouse and pen were not in the correct areas of the box and the installation cd was out of it's sleeve. It wasn't a big deal to me, so I took the tablet out of it's protective "foam sheet" covering and proceeded to install it. The installation manual wasn't as detailed as I would have liked it to be, but it was sufficient. However, when I attempted to install the software (my operating systen is Windows XP) a screen popped up to tell me that this product was not Windows certified and could disable or crash my system if I proceeded to install it. Upon remembering the other reviews of unsatisfied customers, one happened to have had the same situation; I chose not to proceed with the installation. I unplugged the tablet and packaged the product neater and more properly than I had received it, and I plan to ship it back today. While the product was not properly installed, and is planned for return, the tablet was still usuable. Usuable in the sense that you could only use the pen. However the pointer lagged and jumped around the screen, only moving when I hovered over a specific area and clicked the left button. When I went to change the sensitivity settings, the highest setting caused it to be too sensitive and any other setting wasn't sensitive enough. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
