Digital camera reviews of Green Laser 5mw Pen Astronomy Grade for Military, Lecturers and Law EnforcementDigital camera Review: Nice, bright green laser Summary: 4 Stars
The laser is very bright. When I shine it next to a red laser it's about 30 - 50 times brighter. You can see the beam in the light if it reflects off of dust, which is pretty neat. Otherwise it has to be very dark to see the beam clearly.
The laser feels like it's the right weight, and looks and feels sturdy. The case it came in is plastic, covered in felt. But I think it will hold up well. The laser is obviously from China. The instructions and labels on the case are in broken English, which is pretty amusing. It also has conflicting information. That is the main reason I gave it 4 out of 5 starts.
I'm not quite sure what the actual power output is. The label on the laser itself and the label on the packaging and case are different. The label on the laser says the output is between 3 and 8 mW. However, it also says class IIIa, which means <5 mW. The box says 5 - 30 mW, with typical output at 15 mW. I haven't been able to melt through any plastic, and the laser doesn't irritate the skin, so I'm inclined to agree with the <5 mW rating.
Overall I'm happy with the laser. It has a long range and is very bright.
Digital camera Review: Quite impressive Summary: 5 Stars
I am really impress with the power of this green laser. It requires 2 AAA batteries which is quite convenient. I will use it in my university clases and for sure I will impress everybody showing stars and constellations during the night. It is very powerful even in very long distances. I can see the green point over buildings far away.
Digital camera Review: Solid functionality but loose parts. Summary: 4 Stars
Overall I have been pleased with this laser. It arrived quickly and was well-packaged. I've used it frequently and found it to be both very bright and possessed of great range; the laser dot can be clearly seen at several blocks at night.
Cleaning the lens can be trouble. The protective cap over it is secured with thread-locker gel, might have to be reapplied when you replace the cap. It was screwed in so tightly that I needed pliers to remove it, which scraped some of the silver finish off the cap. It's necessary to remove the cap to wipe dust off the lens, so you'll probably have to repeat this regularly.
The lens itself can also shake loose. It sits in a metal sleeve which screws into the base of laser pen. By rotating this lens you can widen or tighten the beam. The lens is loose, so you'll want to secure it with a very small amount of threadlocker once you have it wear you like it, or it will be displaced again. Adjust with a light touch and avoid using metal or any tool which could scrape the lens - a toothpick should work well.
Now that I've learned the laser's quirks and have everything secured with threadlocker, it's working very well. It would be a five-star item if it wasn't fussy with maintenance.
The batteries seem to be lasting quite well, too.
Digital camera Review: Very bright, good value. Summary: 5 Stars
I am very pleased with this green laser pointer. I have had a common red one for years. When I read that the green beam was visible at night, I thought it would be great for pointing out stars at night with my daughter.
Well, this green laser is very bright and I can see the beam at night, especially when I hold the laser by my head so I am looking along the beam. I am still a novice at astronomy, but this green laser pointer does the job. I am very pleased with what I got for the price.
Digital camera Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this to use in my classroom. The green laser allows me to move to the rear of the class and still point out objects. With the red lasers, I had to stay close to the front.
