Digital camera reviews of Griffin Evolve Wireless Sound System for iPodDigital camera Review: Great Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Evolve years ago when it first came out, along with two extra speakers. My wife and I love this thing - the wireless works really well and we can have music anywhere on our main floor and even out on our deck. We've actually found that we use it a lot to listen to streaming radio stations, more so than than our music.
But the reason I am writing this review years later is because of their customer service. After a lot of use, the 30 pin connector (the docking pin) began to get wonky. We ended up having to jam bits of paper into to get our iPod to sit and connect properly. After a few months of this, I wrote Griffin, hoping that I might be able to purchase a new connector. I realized that the chance of getting something like this was slim but I gave it a shot. Griffin replied to my email within a day and in less than a week, had ordered me a brand new base station. Given that my unit was 2 years old, I was flabbergasted. It showed up via UPS a few days ago and works like a charm.
I cannot stress how pleasantly surprised I was at the speed, ease and courtesy I was shown.
Digital camera Review: Great Ipod Wireless System Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this system since 2008 and LOVE it. We haven't been the best at taking care of it and it still works perfectly. The range of the speakers are amazing. We were at the beach, put the docking station out on our deck of the condo and went down to the beach (5 floors below) and out onto the sand and listened all day. The remote didn't pick up but the sound was perfect. People kept stopping by our tent asking where the music was coming from. It's a great system!!
Digital camera Review: Great Sound - questionable quality.... Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great set up and easy to use. Best quality sound for the money. However, over time the speakers don't hold their charge. One speaker dies after an hour and the other after 2 hours. Still a great product, just a little frustrating.
Digital camera Review: Great customer service Summary: 4 Stars
I am torn between saying that this system is a 5 or a 1. All of the above reviews do explain what a great system this is. We love it. I bought it because we could connnect our Bose CD radio using the unput/output on both to either play the CD/Radio through the wireless speakers or I could connect to play my Ipod docked on the Griffin through my Bose, so in essence I got a third speaker using my Bose.
But the problem is that the Speaker batteries cannot be replaced. Mine are less than two years old and no longer take a charge. We are a family, and I know that it gets normal to less than normal use. This bothers me that you can't replace the batteries and that this will mean throwing away the system. In our dispoable society, I am annoyed.
An update: I emailed Griffin to see about ordering speakers...apparently the first batteries they used were not as good and they admitted this...and agreed to send me a new set of speakers free of charge, including shipping and return shipping for the old speakers that they send a box for and shipping label and requested that I send back that old ones.I think that was pretty amazing, considering the speakers were just shy of two years old and they could have told me that they weren't under warranty.
I do wish they would sell extra speakers/docks...they did at one point but they were discontinued.
Digital camera Review: Great for neighborhood parties Summary: 5 Stars
I love these speakers. I like electronics in general, and the Griffin Evolve speakers are currently my favorite toy.
First, they are very easy to set up. The cable connections are similar to plugging any normal electronic device (dvd player, etc.) into your receiver. Let the speakers charge, pop in your iPod and you're ready to go.
I live in a neighborhood that has frequent cookouts, chimnea fires, etc. These are perfect for those scenarios. I can put them on my deck and point them to the backyard if we are hosting. If one of my neighbors is hosting the party, I can bring the speakers to their house and play them there, or just point them in the direction of their yard and crank it up.
The sound quality is surprisingly good for wireless speakers and there is very little distortion when you turn up the volume.
My favorite part of the system, however, is the remote. Unfortunately, you can't see what song you're playing and you can't pick out a specific song to play next unless you're standing next to the base, but I give that all up in a heartbeat for the range of the remote. I can put the speakers on my deck or somewhere in the yard and use the remote while I sit on my neighbor's patio. Changing the volume, forwarding to the next song or even scanning the song are all easy, even at a distance of a few hundred feet.
The charge has almost never run out on me and I've played music continuously through the wireless speakers for hours and hours. I know we've started in the mid-afternoon and kept playing cards outside until the early morning hours and the music never stopped. Even after a couple of years, we still don't have battery problems.
It's a great buy if you have an iPod full of songs that you want to play on a random rotation.
