Digital camera reviews of Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter and Car Charger for iPod (Black)

Digital camera Review: A HUGE downgrade in audio compared to my Kensington FM transmitter.
Summary: 2 Stars

I got this dock expecting that:

a. it would be superior (in terms of sound quality)to my current Kensington FM transmitter dock and

b. that the creadle would be a nice upgrade from the non cradle set up on my Kensington set up.

The moment I set it up I was in for a terrible shock! The sound was absolutely horrible in the Washington DC area with plenty of hiss and generally poor sound quality. The Kensington that so far sounded OK, sounded great after the Griffen Roadtrip. The sound on this is so bad that I simply tossed the cradle into the trash can, since returning stuff on Amazon market place is no walk in the park! So there was $25 completely and absolutely wasted. I did use the little mini stereo jack and the FM transmitter does an OK job on my PC for listening music in my patio.

The cradle itself was nice and had it worked I would have been happy. However since the FM transmitter was so bad, I would never ever reccommend this product to anyone.

Digital camera Review: A Roadtrip Necessity
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a must-have item if you:

1. Have an iPod.
2. Have a car.
3. Would like to play your iPod in your car while driving.
4. Would like to charge your iPod.
5. Would like to stand your iPod in a sturdy spot in your car.
6. Can't afford the aftermarket iPod+vehicle integration.
7. Don't have a tape deck (tape still beats this system in terms of audio quality).
8. Don't want to shuffle through dozens of CDs when you're on the road.. (however, running through your iPod and reading those menus won't be a safe habit either :-/)

Some notes:

- It took a little bit of time and effort to get this ergonomically appropriate for my driving needs since my cigarette lighter isn't that conveniently placed.. but it worked.. somewhat.

- The audio quality will be a _little_ less than radio quality if you're a city slicker (like me) with those oh-so-few frequencies of dead air.. but it'll grow on you. (Southern Las Vegas drivers your best bet seems to be 106.1.

- I'm diggin how to switch stations with this thing with that nifty quick key jumpin to 4 different points on the FM line. You can't exactly preset stations like with the Belkin Tune Transmitter II (which dangles around and drains battery quickly by the way), but that quick key button is the next best thing.

So, It's not the end all, be all, to iPod+Vehicle integration, but it serves its purpose well and is a great buy if you buy here (I paid $56 with no sales tax and free shipping and saved $40).

Digital camera Review: A bit to FM Noisy for my tastes
Summary: 3 Stars

I was unable to get enough gain out of this box, and when i cranked it, i got a flurry of FM static. I tried several different FM Frequencies, but no luck.

It may be something specific to my SUV. I had a local Pro Auto Radio place raving about his Monster FM Xmtr, we tried mine...he skoffed, then we tried his....SAME THING!

If you drive a Mitsu Endevour, you may want to go with an FM Modulater, which is exactly what i did. Its better. But nothing beats a CD in the Player.
I wished car companies would start putting In Line Jacks on their autos. We are a nation of mobile audio, and ignoring this is crazy.

Digital camera Review: A good accessory for your iPod
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased my iTrip about 4 months ago and now can give an objective review of the product. The iTrip is a good choice over competitors' products and offers a good value for the money. Radio reception is good; I especially like the changing channels feature. The fact that it charges the iPod while in use even makes it better. The only negative thing that I've discovered is that sometimes it disconnects from the iPod slot and I have to push it back. That's mostly due to rattles and I imagine will get worse with time.

Overall, good product, good value for the money, and if carefully handled, will last a long time.

Digital camera Review: A great way to listen to your Ipod in your car
Summary: 4 Stars

The RoadTrip FM transmitter will charge your Ipod and allow you to listen to your Ipod over your car speakers using the radio. First you need to find a station that is only static, click a button, and presto, your're in business. The cradle has an extension piece that plugs into your cigarette lighter. It can swivel in several directions, so you can adjust it so it won't interfere with your stick shift or radio buttons. A very well designed product.
