Digital camera reviews of Griffin iTalk Pro - Microphone

Digital camera Review: Great for recording meetings etc.
Summary: 5 Stars

This a very easy to use recorder for your ipod (I used it on a 5th generation one with video). You basically just plug it into the bottom of your ipod and follow the easy instructions on the screen.
There are two quality modes (high and low). I generally use low because it seems fine for my purposes (I bought this recorder to record some meetings for school) and because the high mode takes up a lot of memory.

A 1 hour meeting on low took up about 162 MB while an 1 hour on high took 500MB+.
Also I think the battery drains more quickly in the high quality setting. (but less than a quarter was drained in the low quality setting).

In terms of sound quality, the recorder is very good. You can make out speech and surrounding sounds very well. All sound files are saved as .WAV and titled by the date and time you recorded.

My only complaint is that the unit records at a relatively low volume compared to itunes songs. As a result you have to turn the volume up considerably on your computer or ipod to compensate.

I have not tried recording music so I don't know how good the quality is for that.

Digital camera Review: Great for recording my students!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this for use with my music classes on a recommendation from another music tech teacher. It's fabulous and the quality is great for a basic level mic. We've all enjoyed the ability to then hook it up to the speakers and instantly hear the performance during class.

Digital camera Review: Great little piece
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this with the intention of recording lectures & my own voice for test review. This is a great recorder & for the price you can not beat it. I have the Ipod Nano & despite what others may have said it does indeed fit & is very easy to use! The only thing I would complain if any is it is very sensitive to surrounding noise, if you are not in a quite setting it will record what is around you. Playback is super clear!

Digital camera Review: Great product and excellent customer service
Summary: 5 Stars

This iPod accessory is one of my favorites! Voice quality is very clear. I even used it to create a podcast for one of my classes. I did have a bit of a problem getting it to work initially, but I kid you not, Griffin customer service responded to my request for help in less than 20 minutes. Problem solved!

Digital camera Review: Great.. until it breaks.
Summary: 3 Stars

The quality of the audio from this unit is just ok.. plug in a high quality shotgun or stereo mic for better sound. The built in mics would be fine if you could adjust the gain, but since you can't you will get very peaky and poppy audio when speaking directly to the device.

You will also hear the ipod HD spin up and cycle while using the built in mics. This is not the recorder for serious podcasting unless you are using something to control the volume before it goes in to the italk. Something like a portable 4 track or just a mini-mixer should do the trick. But if you are going to the trouble to set all of that up you probably want something to record to that isn't going to run out of battery so quickly.

I'm sure it had something to do with the way I carried it around in my pocket but the built in mics are now shot.. I didn't smash it or drop it.. just put it in my pocket with my keys for about 5 mins.. now the mics are all messed up. A little durability would be nice.
