Digital camera reviews of Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G (White)

Digital camera Review: Exceeds Expectations
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been needing an FM solution for my iPod because the car I drive most often does not have the option of a cassette connection. I read the reviews for all the different products and settled on this one.

I was aware that audio quality can vary depending on how crowded your local frequencies are, but I've had great success in all of my cars and my home radio.

I would recommend this product highly. It's easy to use and it looks snazzy on top of your iPod. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it from Amazon because I paid WAY more at Radio Shack.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 5 Stars

Griffin blows all of the other radio adapters out of the water by creating the iTrip, made specifically for iPod.

Digital camera Review: Excellent device; with caveats
Summary: 5 Stars

The iTrip device works exactly as advertised, end of story. Will it work everywhere and all the time? Definitely not. Will it work most of the time, in most places? Yes. Does it deliver CD-quality sound? No--but remember, it's an FM transmitter; it transmits sound over the airwaves, not through diodes, fiberoptic lines, or light. This is by far the BEST quality transmitter available; and the power requirements (drawn directly from the iPod) are minimal, unless you're using it for hours on end--a one-hour commute and you'll never notice the battery drain. Observations on use follow: Used in a 2005 jeep, digital radio. Parked, the sound quality is indistiguishable from CD; when the wipers swipe, there's an ultra-short and small burst of static, barely noticed; when the handsfree Uconnect phone rings, there's a huge burst of static, and then, of course, the radio kicks out as the phone engages; I get no change in reception anwhere in the vehicle, and within three feet of the vehicle exterior--the point being where I place it in the truck makes no difference; NOTE: dial down the iPod volume to 20%, and increase the radio volume--there will be no distortion in sound--the other way around will make this an unpleasant listening experience; VERY IMPORTANT: connect you iPod to your computer, select all songs, get info on all songs simultaneously, go to OPTIONS and increase the volume adjustment to 100%: trust me, this works wonders; last, don't forget that the radio volume is very high, so when you switch to a CD or the actual radio, the decibles may surprise you...END: highly recommended, especially for vehicles with no cassett deck or you can't easily connect with a Y-Spltter to the back of your console; and this is the best of the products currently on the market

Digital camera Review: Excellent engineering, great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a few friends who have the first generation iTrip and I've seen it work, not very reliable especially when the temperature varies. However, I read a few reviews on the iTrip two and ended up purchasing one. The iTrip two provides very stable frequency tracking even when you leave it sitting in the sun. The power consumption isn't bad, although it does drain the iPod's battery a little faster (to be expected). The FM signal is strong enough to provide very clear, high fidelity sound even with the iTrip in the back seat or the glove box. Only problem I've encountered is choosing a reliable station for reception, but once you've had it for a few weeks you should be able to choose some good frequencies for your locale (and this is nothing to do with the actual iTrip anyway). Great product, wouild recommend it to anyone with a second generation iPod!

Digital camera Review: Excellent iPod FM transmitter
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a unique opportunity to perform a head-to-head test between the iTrip and the AirPlay last week. I bought my wife an iPod and an FM transmitter for our anniversary, and she bought me the same thing. I bought her an AirPlay, and she bought me an iTrip.

After loading an audiobook onto her iPod, we plugged in the AirPlay and placed it on top of a Sony boombox. Tuning to 87.9 and pressing play on the iPod, sound was barely audible on the boombox, even when both the iPod and the boombox were at high volume. The transmission was noisy and crackly as well. We tried again at several other spots on the FM dial, with similar results.

Then we tried the iTrip. Immediately, clean sound poured out of the boombox at 87.9 FM. No crackling or static at all, and the volume settings for each were normal. I like a product that works perfectly out of the box. I suspect that its antenna is much larger than that of the AirPlay, given the relative size difference between the two, and that the larger antenna provides for better broadcast quality.

The only drawback of the iTrip is the cumbersome means for changing the FM station on which it broadcasts. Otherwise, it's a simple plug & play product. Highly recommended.
