Digital camera reviews of Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G (White)Digital camera Review: A real let-down Summary: 1 Stars
I bought an i-trip not long ago and it worked GREAT from the get go. It was a biut clumsy to get to working, but the quality was beyond my expectations, after using a few other FM transmitters before it. However, I suppose I had the not so bright idea to leave the Itrip on the dash of my car, as I'd done with so many FM adapters before it. Next thing I knew, the itrip was dead. Nothing but static, no matter how hard I try.
I tried looking for some sort of FAQ or something to help me fix the problem online, but all i managed to find on the Griffin website was the origional instrustion manual, little documentation online at all.
It was a great idea, but too much hassle.
Digital camera Review: A waste of $7. Summary: 1 Stars
I looked at the price and forgot to read the info. It doesn't work with an iPOD nano without some type of adapter. I didn't go through the trouble of figuring out what type of adapter that was...
A friend suggested that I get the Belkin, because it has better transmission anyway. I went to Best Buy that day, bought it for about $85, and it works perfectly. It charges my iPOD in the cigarette lighter, too, and it works with ALL iPODs, so your friends can plug theirs in too during long car rides.
Just go to Best Buy.
Digital camera Review: Absolutely Worthless Summary: 1 Stars
This device simply does not work well. It's FM transmitter is nowhere near powerful - even on clear channels, the Itrip is overwhlemed by outside interference making it almost impossible to listen to.
Compared with a satellite radio equipped with FM transmitter - this is really pathetic.
I'm no engineer, but I suspect that it is because it is only powered by the Ipod itself. If you want an FM transmitter for your Ipod - get a powered one!
Digital camera Review: Almost cool Summary: 2 Stars
I thought the idea of a wireless solution for my iPod was a great idea, but in this case the principle is better than the practice.
Initial setup was easy and the iTrip does work well in some situations. But reception quality varies from good to poor but has never been great. When I am in the car I really miss the sound quality and fidelity of a hard wired solution. Changing frequency settings can also be diffifult. Setting it up originally was fine. But I've had to change frequencies a few times and it wasn not as easy as advertised.
If I was going to purchase another FM transmitter for my iPod I would choose a unit with external controls to set the radio frequency. But since I use my iPod in the car most often I have decided to go with the tape insert instead. They are cheaper and sound better. I would only recommend the FM transmitters to people that need the flexibility of wireless and are willing to accept less than perfect audio. And in that group, the iTrip would not be my first choice.
Digital camera Review: Almost unusable Summary: 1 Stars
On the plus side, it is very compact and fits great on the iPod. It looks like it is part of the iPod. It's a great idea. On the minus side: 1. Finding gaps on the radio dial can be very difficult, especially if you commute a ways and pass through multiple radio markets. 2. The iTrip just doesn't put out a very strong signal, which means that your iPod will always sound like a radio station that is fading out. You'll get no stereo separation and lots of static. 3. The way you tune the iTrip to a radio station requires that you play the "song" corresponding to the station you want and then hit Pause half-way through it. This is an elegant solution in some ways, but you wouldn't want to do it while driving!
