Digital camera reviews of Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G (White)Digital camera Review: Already Out of Date for the Newest IPods Summary: 3 Stars
This model of the Griffin iTrip is for the first and second generation click-wheel iPods that have two holes (round and oblong) on the top of the device. It works well if you are traveling in an area without a lot of overlapping radio stations at the lower end of the FM dial. A long trip through several major metropolitan areas will likely be a pain since you have to re-tune the transmitter whenever voices or music are transmitted over the same frequency. You must download the iTrip frequencies onto the iPod as a playlist, then select a different empty frequency. Forget it if you are driving alone.
The pros are: a. It's small, lightweight, and easy to attach b. It's wireless c. The sound transmission is great as long as the frequency is open
If you use the shuffle feature a lot, you will hate the iTrip, as the frequencies show up as songs during a shuffle. With a lot of music downloading onto the iPod, the odds aren't great that one of these "songs" will crop up, but it's a pain when they do.
I recommend getting a cassette adaptor for longer trips or for those who shuffle a lot. For those using the iPod mostly within an proscribed area with a consistent empty frequency, the iTrip is much more convenient than other options. You might want to look at Griffin's newest iTrip which allows you to change the frequencies from the device itself, without having to download the stations as "songs"; this LCD model fits the newer video-capable iPods, although it connects instead on the bottom of the device, making it impossible to play and charge at the same time.
Digital camera Review: Average Summary: 3 Stars
I would definitely say that the iTrip makes it convient to listen to your iPod at any given location wirelessly. The quality is about average and could possibly be a little better. From what I understand that the direct connection either cigarette lighter or through the cassette tapes works alot better. The only thing is that you cannot listen to it on your home studio.
Digital camera Review: Bad iTrip Summary: 2 Stars
Well I had a Bad iTrip. The thing was a knobathon to get going in the car while driving (and that was with my CoPilot) and when i 'luckily' found a station almost by accident, it sounded terrible. Like an MP3 thru an FM channel or an FM station thru a tin can.it has been returned - up for auction it goes. (++ on the plus side the design and concept were way too cool - it hooked me. It might take 2-5 years to perfect the technology maybe then i'll try again...but for now it definitely sucks.)
