Digital camera reviews of Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G (White)Digital camera Review: good item for the price Summary: 3 StarsWe bought this so we could play our IPod in the car. It works great when you find a working station. The CD it came with shows a listing of stations that may work in the area you're in but wasn't always accurate. Make sure you read the directions very carefully before selecting a station for it to play off of or it'll add every single station to your Ipod, which can then only be deleted when you hook it up to your computer. Quite a pain for road trips.
Digital camera Review: excellent product Summary: 5 StarsI love the iTrip transmitter. It does what it is supposed to and doesn't have any cords to get tangled or anything. I love that I can bring my music collection and play it anywhere that there is an FM radio. I have only occasionally had problems with static from nearby stations and I live in eastern Massachusetts and frequently drive through Boston. As for some of the other reviewers comments about lack of range - I have not had any problems with needing to have the ipod right next to the stereo. I always leave it on my passenger seat without a problem. I have even used it at school (I teach physical education) and have even held it while walking 10-15 feet from the radio and haven't had any problems there.
Digital camera Review: I ended up returning this... Summary: 1 StarsI had just bought a new iPod and wanted to bring it on a car trip. It doesn't work at all in moderately populated areas. We were driving from Sacramento to San Francisco and it hardly worked for more than 5 minutes everywhere. Right when I'd get my mp3s to come in with any clarity (albeit while holding it just right), a new station would get in our way and suddenly I'd be listening not to soothing Radiohead but Bob and Carl in the morning. This might work if you live in Iowa, but it doesn't work in populated areas.
Digital camera Review: battery problem Summary: 1 StarsI can't be certain it's the iTrip, I had it for several months where it worked as well as it can, i.e. has to be within 1-2 feet of the radio. Then I got a tape connection which significantly enhanced the sound quality. But when I bought a new car without a tape deck I got the Itrip out of the mothbag and within a week or so, my otherwise well-working 40GB clickwheel ipod's battery died completely. I had the ipod replaced with a new one, plugged the Itrip in and within 1 day the battery was gone; could only be recharged to hold 2 minutes of power. I've gotten another ipod and I'm not taking any chances, the Itrip goes in the dustbin.
Digital camera Review: Useless in urban areas Summary: 1 StarsI drive in the NYC area and have had the same problems with the iTrip FM transmitter as many other Amazon customers. No matter what FM channel I select, I get a ton of static when trying to listen to my iPod in the car. It's simply too hard to find an unused frequency. The music cuts in and out frequently and it's necessary to change the stations a lot when driving. Connecting an iPod using a casette tape adapter is a much better approach for cars that happen to have a casette player. However, if you are driving in a car that has no casette player, you may be out of luck.
