Digital camera Review: Great little radio

Works almost as advertised. After a recent bad storm, we were without power for a week. This unit would get about an hour of service after cranking for about 90 seconds. we were able to keep informed by an area radio station, where we could get fuel, ice, and batteries, etc., and the progress of the clean-up and electrical service repair. Would recommend this radio. Don't know how well the SW receives as we didn't try it.Digital camera Review: Great little radio

I was given this radio several years ago to complete my emergency kit. I think for the price it cant be beat. Overall I'm very satisfied with this little radio. I ended up putting it my bathroom to listen to. What really surprised me is the battery life. It's plays for 30 minutes every morning, and I have yet to change the AA batteries. Its now been in there for over a year and its played loud enough to hear over the shower. It may not have the most precise tuner, but I've never seen anything battery operated last 12 months without charging. That feature alone is worth the price in my opinion. I would give this five stars for its hand-crank charging, which lasts for about an hour of ordinary radio listening. The charging mechanism is easy, not tiring, and, unlike other products in this category, not flimsy.I give it only three stars because the radio tuner is of low quality; in downtown NYC the FM dial only gets a few stations clearly and without interference.

I got this radio because I like that all my appliances are now battery or crank powered.
Unfortunately, out of the box, the radio failed to store a charge and the built in light is broken. The NiMH battery connector was bad - so I resoldered it. I'm not sure why the light doesn't work and I don't have an easy way to replace it.

I had the same experience as reported by Grumpy, so I don't think the attitude is grumpy at all. I have had two of these (also not from Amazon), and I was pleased to have a found a good way to listen to radio in the garden while I work.
Mine (both) worked well initially, but both gave it up quite soon. After a few hours, each of them only worked on the wind-up generator for a few minutes. Each minute of winding might only yield five minutes of play now, regardless of volume.
The solar power option still works. Oh well.
