Going car shopping? You NEED this calculator and here's why...
You've talked to the salesperson and picked out your options etc. and you have been handed over to the Manager/Financial person to haggle over the price and sign the papers.
That person HAS this calculator! They pull it out from their cheap polyester jacket and announce with some "authority" the terms and price. Are you intimidated? NO! You pull out your calculator and shake your head at the salesperson. Then ask them for a piece of paper/pad and a pencil. Now here's the part when you save hundreds or a thousand dollars. Put what you want to pay for the car into the display on the calculator! Say "Gee, I get a different amount". [This throws the other person off guard and you, psychologically, move into control.] The sales person will get nervous and ask what did you get? [He/she is assuming you've used a formula inherent in the financial calculator. Make sure they only see the back of the calculator] Start writing numbers on the paper/pad, hem and haw, erase etc. Press buttons on the calculator etc. "Let me try again" you say. Then continue to scribble on the paper, shake your head, sigh loudly etc. Do this for 10 minutes. See the finance guy sweat. [This is FUN!]. Finally announce "This is what I'll pay" and show him the display. [Don't say "This is what I can afford" - that will leave you open to further ?s. and BS]Then don't say anything! If you have to answer a question just repeat "This is what I'll pay" and show him/her the display on the calculator. Don't say anything.

I absolutely love this calculator. It's easy to use and best of all, it allows algebraic inputation. I had a great experience w/ Amazon on this purchase. The original calculator I received was defective, simply a fluke. I contacted Amazon and received a brand new replacement within 2 days!...this more than 2 months after I bought the item. I was overjoyed at how easy it was.

This HP 12c Platinum replaces one I had for years and lost. It works as I expected. My only regret is that, like so many things, it is now made in China, not the US. Also, the case it comes in is a little tight, but that's only a minor inconvenience.Digital camera Review: Calculators purchased

I would recommend against buying this model or an HP calculator at this time. Always a reliable calculator in the past, on the recent 12c model I bought several of the keys no longer work. HP has a very limited one year warranty (my last one worked steadily for over 10 years), and I can't help but wonder if they're using cheaper parts to get the price down from where it was several years ago.
