Digital camera reviews of HP 12C Platinum Financial Calculator

Digital camera Review: Excellent RPN Financial Calculator
Summary: 5 Stars

If you want a high quality financial calculator I doubt you can do any better than this one. Admittedly I am an HP calculator fan from long ago. RPN is more logical and fewer keystrokes than an algebraic calculator. This calculator also includes a vey good quality manual with lots of solved examples of how to use the various functions. Admittedly I'll likely not solve a problem involving 80 cash flows on a calculator (but use a spreedsheet) but I use it for quick time value of money type of stuff. I works great.

One sign of our times, I have an HP 11C scientific calculator from the early 80s. The 12C is the financial version of the same calculator. The original was made is USA. This one, recently manufactured, is made in China.

Digital camera Review: Excellent RPN calculator
Summary: 4 Stars

If you think in RPN, you will like this small calculator. The horizontal layout is excellent - especially for those of us who remember the 15C. If you don't know RPN, get a different model with algebraic input. NOTE: the buttons seem much flimsier than on the old 15C. And, of course, there are no advanced math or trig functions.

Digital camera Review: Excellent device
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an initial review, been using a few weeks, good device so far. Instead of repeating everything said in other reviews, will just point out a few things:

1. The case is actually really nice. Yes, too big for your pocket like others have suggested, but frankly I find the calculator alone too big for my pockets. At 1/2" thick at its thickest, it's not something I want to carry around in my shirt or pants pocket anyway. Would rather have the nice, leather, magnetically closing case. Only improvement would be to make a case like this that lets you use the calc without having to remove it. Can't use 12c in this case, have to remove it.

2. For hp 12c noobs like me, use [f][2] to change from the default decimal configuration of 1 to 2 (or however many decimals you want to see). If you get a result with more decimal precision than the 12c is set to show (as in the examples on pg 25 of the manual), it will automatically round the result instead of changing the precision. And info on how to manually change the precision was difficult to find in the otherwise superb manual.

Otherwise, quality device (never used the original 12c so can't compare), love the horizontal layout, all calcs should be this way.

Digital camera Review: Excellent financial calculator
Summary: 5 Stars

I have found the calculator to be very helpful. The user guide is well written -- it was easy to learn the basics when I first started using the calculator, and then to find and learn more advanced topics as my comfort with the basics improved.

Digital camera Review: Excellent overall, no problems
Summary: 5 Stars

The product (HP-12C financial calculator) was very reasonably priced, arrived in a timely manner in perfect condition. Thanks!
