Digital camera reviews of HP 17BII Financial CalculatorDigital camera Review: Don't listen to the Russian CFA guy!! Summary: 5 Stars
Using this calculater on the CFA exam can get you kicked out! Just thought I'd set the record straight. From the AIMR website: Two models of business calculator are authorized for use on the CFA examinations: the Texas Instruments BA II Plus (including the BA II Plus Professional) and the Hewlett Packard 12C (including the HP 12C Platinum when available). AIMR strictly enforces all policies with regard to calculator usage during the Chartered Financial Analyst examinations and candidates are required to abide by AIMR's policies. Your calculator will be inspected prior to the start of the examination. Your calculator must then remain on your desk in full view and proctors will continue to inspect calculators throughout the administration of the examination. Proctors are instructed to confiscate all unauthorized calculators. Failure by the proctors to detect an unauthorized calculator prior to the start of the examination, or your use of an unauthorized calculator at any time during the exam, does not imply that the calculator is an approved model or that your scores will ultimately be reported. Use of an unauthorized calculator is considered a violation of AIMR rules, regulation and policies, and may result in a professional conduct investigation with the possibility of sanctions up to and including suspension from participation in the CFA Program and voiding of your examination results.
Digital camera Review: Excellent calculator Summary: 5 Stars
I have used my 17BII since 1992, and it has withstood being dropped, carried in a backpack with tons of accounting texts, stuffed into overfull briefcases and every other sort of indignity imaginable with the exception of being dropped into water. Most of its life, I have not had the protective slipcover to protect it. I generally use only the present value functions and the amortization functions. My Handspring Visor recently pushed this calculator out of my shirt pocket after 9 years. If you want a financial calculator, this is the way to go, no question. Reliable and very intuitive. The HP-12C is not even in the same league as this calculator for ease of use. The menu-driven interface makes this evry easy to get up to speed on. This calculator also has some useful alarm/date functions that can be used as a rudimentary planner. You can also program equations and solve for a variety of variables that you can define yourself. This is very useful for on-the-fly "what if" calculations.
Digital camera Review: Flawed display Summary: 2 Stars
I have owned an HP 12C for years. I thought that getting this more modern calculator would be better because of it's menu driven interface. I like the interface although i still like the form factor of the 12C better. But what really bothers me is the display. The contrast to get the menu's to work is awful. You have to look at the display at just the right angle to see the numbers. Really poor design. If they corrected this flaw, which i consider major, then i would vote for it over the 12C. With the display flaw however, my vote goes to the 12C. It is plenty fast enough for the majority of standard financial calculations. It's form factor is great. It is a classic.
Digital camera Review: Good but not necessary Summary: 4 Stars
I think that the 10Bii will suit just about 90% of all business courses or careers. It is nice to have the SOLVE function, but not worth spending 60 dollars more than the 10Bii.
Digital camera Review: Good for the job but screen a little hard to read Summary: 4 Stars
Has a lot of nice features but the screen has to be held looking directly at you in order for you to read it. This could be improved but over all a good calculator
