The HP Photosmart series of printers have general problems. After a short period of usage (say 1 year), the printer will not align with HP authentic ink catridges. The problem is, you won't find out until you actually purchase new cartridges. As the ink catridges are expensive, what happens is you have a printer that is bad after the old catridge is used up, in addition, you then wasted $40 on catridges which the printer cannot use. I've been buying this exact cartridge combo-pack from Target and Walmart for a few years because they had the best price. Well the price on Amazon is much lower and not by a few cents. It's lower by a few dollar! Add in the savings of free shipping (no wasted gas) and in my case no tax and that's an even bigger savings! Like most people, I do not like spending a lot on printer ink. I love my printer, but I recently found out that it would not print black and white images if the color cartridge is empty. Considering it is finals week, and I have a lot to print, this was really bad news for me. Luckily, I was able to get this ink very quickly. I ordered it late on Wednesday night, and received it Friday in the early afternoon.
The product itself:
I am no expert on printer ink quality, but I CAN tell you that I have used numerous brands and types of printers, and this ink is the only ink I have ever noticed to have great pigmentation right up to the end of the cartridge's life. The last five to ten pages might be a little lighter than the initial five to ten, but by that point, my printer would have long since warned me I was getting low.
The color ink is beautiful. I do print photos, though infrequently. I think this actually attests to the quality of the ink, however because it sits and sits without getting used, and then STILL provides a gorgeous color print. I've never seen such accurate and saturated colors in inks other than the HP Vivera Ink.
The black ink is always dark and even when I choose to use less ink (for example, when printing a 20-30 page research paper) to save some money, the print is still crisp and easily dark enough to read.
I took one star off because I wish the ink were cheaper, but in all honesty, it compares well (price-wise) to any other brand.
