A deskjet is cheaper initially, but longterm is very costly to operate. Typical cartridge only yields 200 pages at a cost of 10 cents per page. The laserjets are slightly more expensive, but their large ink/toner cartridge is just 3 cents per page. Laserjets start saving you money after you pass the 800 page threshold.
