Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet 6940 Color Printer (C8970A#B1H)Digital camera Review: Would be ok if it was not reliable, less ink-hoggy beast Summary: 2 StarsThis would be a nice little printer, if it was not so unreliable, and hog ink such that it is not very affordable. After working ok for a month of light printing activity, starter ink cartridges is gone.
Then it's ordering on-line, figure out how the heck did one remove cartridges again (icons don't help if you don't remember exact way to remove the thing from thingamagic that holds them). But that'd be ok if (a) it was not as frequent an occurence (it is), and (b) if the damn thing did not basically break after couple of more months (which it did). Error code claims there's a problem with cartridge ("please clean"), but that does not seem to be the case.
Too bad that both Dell and HP appear to produce cheap unreliable printers. I would not mind higher price if these were not quite this disposable. As things are, choice is tricky, as even laser printers appear to be quite flaky (this was a replacement for otherwise fine, but broken-after-1-year, Dell laser).
Digital camera Review: Get one while they last Summary: 5 StarsMy old HP DeskJet 6940 finally reached the end of its useful life and I found there was nothing comparable on the market with which to replace it. HP has discontinued them and they are no longer in the stores, but available on-line. I purchsed another new one from Amazon and am very happy with its perfornmance. Don't hesitate to buy one if you can still get it.
Digital camera Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 StarsWe bought this printer several months ago and have found it to be wanting in several areas. It runs through the black ink cartridge very quickly, it must be replaced weekly, very costly. And now it is pulling multiple sheets through at a time, a waste of paper and precious ink. I will not buy another HP printer.
Digital camera Review: Good network printer Summary: 3 StarsThis HP printer is my family's shared network printer. It attaches directly to our network, not a computer like most printers. Therefore, it's easy to access from any computer on our family network (pc and apple computers). The first model we bought broke after a year or so .... the paper handler stopped moving the paper through properly. I got a replacement under my extended warranty for no charge. The replacement printer has been working fine for over a year now. Good for general printing. I've never used it for color photos, so can't comment on that. The real benefit of this printer is its networking capabilities, which works fine. I'd recommend it for low volume printing.
Digital camera Review: Best basic printer I have ever had Summary: 5 StarsI love this printer. Ink seems to last forever, never a paper jam, has lasted for several years and is so sturdy, I bought three for my kids and theirs are still going. I doubt HP will ever make a better printer because it works and lasts too well. And after owning this one, I am afraid to get another. I have an HP 5610 that I have had to replace three times. Once because it got struck by lightening, but so did the other one and it kept working just fine. We had a day at the ballpark to celebrate the retirement of one of our doctors and must have printed reams of paper on this printer, with color drawings, and I think I printed over a ream of paper after it said the ink was almost out. It can be a workhorse, but I am pleased to say that as the main family printer, it is simply dependable. I am tempted to buy one to stick in the closet in case this one ever does kick the bucket.
