Digital camera Review: An Honest Mistake
Summary: 5 Stars

HP Deskjet 6940 Color Printer (C8970A#B1H)The order for this printer was delivered in good time and good condition. However, my wife, who ordered the product realized, on delivery, that she wanted an all-in-one printer instead. We simply rebundled the printer in its original box, obtained a return label through Amazon's web page and dropped the parcel off at the mail store. Within a few days our Visa account was credited with no questions asked. I will never worry about ordering through Amazon again, honest mistakes may be made in ordering and Amazon understands this. Amazon are good people to do business with. We have since ordered and had delivered a different all-in-one printer that more suits our needs.

Digital camera Review: Awesome printer
Summary: 5 Stars

Awesome printer for the price! Great quality printing compared to some much more expensive printers.

Digital camera Review: Best basic printer I have ever had
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this printer. Ink seems to last forever, never a paper jam, has lasted for several years and is so sturdy, I bought three for my kids and theirs are still going. I doubt HP will ever make a better printer because it works and lasts too well. And after owning this one, I am afraid to get another. I have an HP 5610 that I have had to replace three times. Once because it got struck by lightening, but so did the other one and it kept working just fine. We had a day at the ballpark to celebrate the retirement of one of our doctors and must have printed reams of paper on this printer, with color drawings, and I think I printed over a ream of paper after it said the ink was almost out. It can be a workhorse, but I am pleased to say that as the main family printer, it is simply dependable. I am tempted to buy one to stick in the closet in case this one ever does kick the bucket.

Digital camera Review: Better than the 6540 but that is not saying much
Summary: 1 Stars

This is the third HP Printer I have owned and all have been disappointments. I owned the 6540 which I believe is the previous model to this one. And I owned the previous model to the 6540. In all 3 cases, they start off good (not great) and then things begin to break that HP customer service says can not be repaired.

On the HP 6940, the on-off button is in the upper left corner of the front panel. On mine, the light blub burnt out after a few months so I never knew if it was on or off. The good news is if the printer was off, it would turn itself on when I sent a print job to it. But the bad news was I only knew that the printer was off (stopping electricity cost & possible heat issues) when I unpluged it.

I found the cartridge ink could be purchased at Walgrens - refilling the HP cartridges - which was much cheaper than buying the HP ink cartridges new. However, the printer would not recognize them and was often telling me I was low on ink when I wasn't.

But the reason I finally dumped the printer, it would jam so often that it just wasn't worth the effort fighting with it anymore. After a paper jam, often I had to reinstall the printer to get it to realize it was cleared and could resume printing. That gets old quick. There is no reset button. You can go to the control panel and ask the printer to resume - but often it will not resume until after you have turned it off for hours (the following day.)

The printed text was good and the color pictures were ok - but the other issues just made this a frustrating experience for me.

Digital camera Review: Beware the paper tray and wonky network setup for Mac
Summary: 3 Stars

I just finished setting this guy up. It took about an hour and, as with so many devices these days, the boxed instructions were no help. I think it bears saying that I'm a Mac user, and have been for going on 20 years now. Manufacturers are really out of excuses for not having any Mac specific support on their devices, especially ones that proudly trumpet their Mac support right on the box.
Having said that, I spent the majority of time trying to get the printer to see the network, the Macs to see the printer and the printer to see the paper. Unless the tray is absolutely packed with paper--begging for a jam--then the printer balks at any printing.

Thank goodness for Apple's Bonjour, which allowed me to see the printer despite HP's software ultimately failing to be helpful.
After the setup nightmare, which really isn't any big deal when compared to most any printer you buy that isn't an Epson, the print quality is good and fast. I'd love this printer more if the setup weren't so mysterious. Ethernet is a nice feature at this price point, too. Good product, poor execution.
