Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet 6980 Color Printer (C8969A#B1H)Digital camera Review: An excellent printer for home or home office. Laser Quality, Prints Fast. Easy to install. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this printer earlier this week. I installed the software and had it up and running in about 10 minutes. The installation was simple and straightforward, and could not have been easier. The install was on a Mac and not a PC -- in case that is a factor.
My impressions: Print speed is remarkably fast. The quality of the printing is excellent too -- HP describes it as laser quality and I would agree. The printing appears sharp, clean, crisp and very professional. It's quiet too.
This machine has a very solid feel to it; it's weight and construction makes it feel like it is built to last. I mention this because I have examined other HP printers priced for less and found many to be very lightweight and made primarily of plastic. HP rates this model as capable of printing 5,000 copies per month ... which should speak to it's durability and build quality.
If you are seeking a printer for your home or home office do consider this model. It's a good, solid, well built printer that should last many years and which produces high quality printing.
Digital camera Review: Awful Summary: 1 Stars
I was very optimistic about purchasing this printer after reading all the other reviews. However, I'm running on Vista and the wireless wouldn't connect. I could have the printer itself connected to my router and then have my computer printer via the router, but I never actually had the wireless connection I was promised. I spoke with HP customer support for about 10 hours over the course of 3 days, all to no avail, before the final person hung up on me. I ended up giving up and just returning it to Amazon. I'll never buy from HP again, be warned.
Digital camera Review: Awsome Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product for it's wireless capability. The tech support was fantastic. She stayed with me until I got the wireless working. It's prints beautiful pictues and quick and from anywhere in my small office. It was everything I hoped it would be. +++
Digital camera Review: BEST EVER Summary: 5 Stars
WOW! I am really impressed with this printer. Not only is it fast, it's quiet, no vibrating and prints out in a very high pixel rate...resulting in sharp/clear prints (e.g. photos).
I have Windows Vista, resulting in an instant installation. I didn't even have to use the CD that came with it to install it. Windows Vista automatically found the drivers. Within 5 min. it was up & running.
I'm a happy camper.
Digital camera Review: Bad choice Summary: 1 Stars
This printer is extraordinarily bad, especially considering the price I paid for it. I bought it for the wireless printing capabilities, which work with some caveats.
First, I run windows XP on two wireless enabled laptops. I did not have any problems installing the printer on them, as some other people did, but I used a USB key drive, which made things easier (the setup wizard will copy your wireless network settings onto the drive, then you plug it into the usb port on the printer and it puts the printer online).
That said, the printer drivers are TERRIBLE. They never shut down when I restart windows, so I have to manually end program whenever I want to restart either of my computers. Additionally, the drivers don't connect to the printer all the time when printing wirelessly for some reason: for example, I just printed two pdf files via wireless; the first printed fine, but the second failed and I had to cancel and restart the print job.
The printer is also horrifically loud. When printing, it literally sounds as if plastic parts inside the printer are snapping continually. I don't know if I just got a bad model, but it sounds as if the thing is being molested whenever I need to print something. Ironically, there is a 'silent' mode button which does absolutely nothing.
The ink cartridges are low capacity, meaning you will have to swap out ink cartridges more often than other printers. The ink seems not to last as long as it should, even when one considers the cartridge's small size. Be prepared to buy cartridges often if you plan on using this printer to even a moderate extent.
In summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. the wireless feature is not worth the money you'll shell out and the many cons this printer has
