Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet 6980 Color Printer (C8969A#B1H)

Digital camera Review: Best Printer yet!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have both Macbooks and PC's on my home network and have had trouble finding a printer/wireless print server combination that would support everything. I bought this printer, it was delivered quickly and exceeded my expectations. The printer configuration was quite simple and I was able to connect it to both a Macbook and a PC on the first attempt. I couldn't tell you the last time that happened. In addition, the print quality and speed is quite good for a home user.

Good job HP!

Digital camera Review: Customer Service SNAFU
Summary: 3 Stars

Had a problem with not being able to display the ink cartridge levels using the 'Service this device' box on the Printing preferences. Started an e-mail dialogue with their 'customer support'. What a joke! After six or seven sends and replys and jumping thru their hoops to fix the problem, I gave up. Two days later the problem went away! The printer is OK, just what you expect from an HP printer. But hope you don't ever need tech support! Oh yes, my HP 3970 Scanner IS NOT compatible with this HP printer. Must load my software CD everytime I want to scan something.
My more HP.

Digital camera Review: Decent printer, but goes through ink FAST
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this printer as a combined plain text photo printer. In general, this is a great printer with one major flaw: it goes through ink incredibly fast.

Pros:
-Wireless: I love this feature! We've set up the printer in an unobtrusive corner of the office, and our laptops can print to it without hassle.
-Double-sided (duplex) printing: With the optional adapter, automatic double-sided printing is very convenient.
-Intuitive buttons/display: There are only a few buttons on the printer and each is associated with a large colored LED, so there's no guesswork in trying to figure out how (for example) to resume printing after you've reloaded paper.
-Excellent quality photos, especially black and whites (my specialty).
-Prints plain text well, too.

Cons:
-GOES THROUGH INK VERY QUICKLY: At first, we thought we were getting defective ink cartridges, because we went through them so fast. The cartridges are much smaller than previous HP models, but still cost the same (or more). This is especially a problem with the (incredibly tiny!) photo cartridges -- just today I went through two brand new HP 100 gray photo cartridges printing 54 5"x7" photos. At ~$25 per cartridge, that's almost $1 per 5"x7" just in ink!
-Small paper tray requires frequent reloading: The duplexer adds much-needed storage for paper, but the printer always defaults to printing from the much smaller top tray.

Bottom line, I love this printer, but my wallet (and patience) is beginning to suffer from its insatiable ink appetite.

Digital camera Review: Decent wireless printer - Great for the price
Summary: 3 Stars

Like the title says, this is a decent wireless printer. No bells and whistles, no scanner, no copier, no fax - Just what I wanted. The only problem I have is a modest one; I have to 'reset' the printer often by turning it off and back on after 10 seconds. Sometimes it goes a couple of days before I have to reset it and some days I have to reset it every time I print.

However, I would recommend this printer for anyone who would prefer resetting their printer every so often compared to running printer cords to and from inconvenient spots.

Given the choice (and the price) I would purchase this product again.

Digital camera Review: Do NOT buy this printer.
Summary: 1 Stars

This is absolutely the worst printer you could buy. It comes off-line every time you fill the paper or change the ink cartridge (which, by the way, is insanely difficult to do) and then, just to rub salt in your wounds, the HP company CHARGES you to help you at their 1-800 number, I am not kidding. $34 bucks a pop. If you have problems with this defective product, you can pay them to try to get the thing working again.

I'm only one year into owning it, and now, on top of all the other grief it has given me, the printing is unstable, prints fuzzily and double-lines. It's un-usable now.

I will NEVER buy another HP product.
