Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet D4260 Printer (CB641A#B1H)

Digital camera Review: A great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product, the HP D4260, has been everything that I expected based on the reviews that I looked at before purchasing. The printer is very quick, very efficient, and is very compact and convenient. I should note that I'm not the savviest person with this product as I am just a college student and wanted a reliable printer, but it definitely gets the job done for me and is very easy to use. I would definitely recommend this printer.

Digital camera Review: A piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had this printer for several months now and I think I'm done with HPs. The printer constantly, and I do mean constantly, JAMs, even though I never put in more than 10 sheets at a time. Once it jams, I have to take apart the back, clear the queue on the computer and unplug the printer for a few moments, otherwise it will not continue printing. Then there are software glitches of some kind that often require me to reboot my entire computer before it will print.

Finally, there is this flimsy little pull-out shelf that is supposed to catch what prints out. It sticks WAY out. Our printer is on a typical computer desk with the printer on a shelf about where your knees are, so everyone keep wacking it or shoving it back in. Then, when someone prints something out, if it doesn't jam, it throws the pages all over the floor. I think I'm going to just throw the piece of junk away and invest in something that actually works.

Digital camera Review: Bad driver
Summary: 2 Stars

I have 3 of these printers connected to 3 different machines, all running Windows XP.
Regardless of whether I used the Windows 'add hardware' wizard or installed software from the cd it claimed that the software failed to install on some level.
However, the printer was added and works -sometimes.
Occasionally, on all of the machines, the print job just stalls in the queue at 24k of whatever the job size is and there is no easy way to cancel the job and re-print it other than restarting the computer. Often the printer appears to be "paused" or "offline" in the Printers + Faxes window, but upon opening it or viewing its properties it does not appear to be.
I can not find a better driver for it, but I'll probably look into some sort of open source driver.

Digital camera Review: Beware - it's a toy, and not a very good one either.
Summary: 1 Stars

The paper feed is so irregular that when you print labels they do not all come out even. Some will print high, some low, only a few on each sheet are correct. You'll find yourself throwing away a lot of unuseable labels.

I believe the flaw is called paper slippage or faulty registration. You may try to adjust your page set-up to correct for the irregularities but beware, the irregularities change from page to page, so you are chasing your tail.

True, it's a cheap printer - but you are still wasting your money when you buy it.

Digital camera Review: Can I give this product -5 stars?
Summary: 1 Stars

I have never seen such a horrible printer. Unfortunately I am unlucky enough to have this printer on my desk at work. It only works when it wants to and customer service at HP only gives a temporary solution to this problem. Rarely am I so dissatisfied with any product, but this takes the cake.
