Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet D4260 Printer (CB641A#B1H)Digital camera Review: HP does it again Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the best printers I've ever owned. The color comes out a perfect match, it doesn't streak or run together and it is very quite. I've had some pretty expensive printers and this one prints just as good as any of them. Thanks HP, you've done it again.
Digital camera Review: Great printer with the RIGHT paper!! Summary: 5 StarsThis printer was really simple to install. I purchased the USB cable with it so no worries there. The print quality is fine. I haven't printed any photos, but for every day printing I have no complaints.
The one problem I had was once I got the printer installed and tried to print it jammed every single page. I must have tried 20-30 different times and each time it jammed. I purchase 1 ream of HP Ink Jet specific printer paper and haven't had a problem since. Not sure if it was my paper or the printer is picky, but was easily solved.
Digital camera Review: Great basic printer Summary: 5 StarsWe ordered this as a replacement for an older HP Photosmart. So far, we have not had any problems. The ink is cheaper & the print quality seems to be great for both text and graphics. It is great for a basic printer.
Digital camera Review: A Good Printer Summary: 5 StarsA good printer for the home or office - if you are froggy you can even take it with you. Will not work with windows 98 - so avoid it if you are running that version. Works well with my hp laptop running windows xp. I print documents, labels and envelopes with no problem. Haven't really printed too much in color - black ink does not last very long (even in "draft mode"). Still worth the money if you are not doing a lot of mass printing.
Digital camera Review: What A Hunk Of Junk Summary: 1 StarsI purchased a Deskjet 4260 last month, thinking it would save me money and that HP was a reliable brand. I hooked it up to my Mac computer (System 10.5) and installed the drivers from the enclosed CD. There was no instruction manual included, but there is never any problem changing printers on a Mac - or so I thought.
The software was all wrong. I could not access the features on the printing software that choose the correct paper, so every other page I printed came out chewed-up, as the printer thought it was dealing with heavy cardstock. I could not change it to the plain paper setting.
I uninstalled and did a clean re-install with the latest drivers available on the website. I also downloaded the owner's manual and checked the support page to see if there was a reason for this problem. When I tried to print again, nothing had changed.
I contacted HP Support. They suggested I repair my permissions. This takes a long time, but I did it. It also made no difference with the problem. Then HP Support told me to re-install my entire system (!). I did this, also, causing much disruption of all my settings. It had no effect on the problem. At each point, HP Support blamed the problem on my computer.
I went back to square one, and did everything HP Support suggested over. This took most of a weekend, but I could not believe that this problem was insoluble. Added to this fact, I threw the box away when I installed the computer. I thought I had bought a reliable product and would not need to return it. So I could not return it to the store for a refund. I mentioned this to HP Support, but they told me I was out of luck, no help from them.
After going through all this, I still could not get the printing program to work. Not only did it eat up half my printing jobs; sometimes, the printer would "disappear" from my system, and I'd have to re-install the drivers again.
Although I lost everything I owned in Hurricane Katrina and am struggling to get by, I decided my time was too valuable to keep fighting such a poorly designed piece of machinery. I bought an Epson printer (more features for the same price). I plugged it into the computer and have been printing successfully without any trouble.
Shame on you, Hewlett-Packard, for shoddy products and a bad support system.
