Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet D4260 Printer (CB641A#B1H)Digital camera Review: It just works Summary: 5 Stars
I was a long time Epson user, but I got really annoyed with the way Epson printers stall to clear the print heads (which clog frequently). HP doesn't seem to have that problem; perhaps because the printhead gets changed every time you replace the ink cartridge.
I use the printer with both Mac OS X and Windows (I run both on my MacBook Pro). No installation issues on either platform. It's quick, the output looks great, it handles envelopes just fine, and the price is right. Happy camper.
By the way, if you're office is cramped (like mine) don't let the depth dimension scare you - you can fold the paper tray up out of the way when it's not printing, and it takes up about 8".
Digital camera Review: It prints, but sometimes I want to throw it out of a very high window... Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this printer about a year ago, and have had too many frustrations with it to count. Where it shines is printing online documents on plain paper. It has software (I've never had a software problem with it) to align online documents to print in the printable area more consistently. That is about the only good thing I can say about the printer.
My main two complaints are:
1. Unreliable paper feed: If you're printing on seemingly any type of label paper (and I frequently do) the paper will not feed consistently. The labels either print too high or too low, and as an example, I went through 20 sheets of labels to get one to print out correctly. That gets expensive.
2. Printable Area: The printable area on the paper is so small that making any type of three fold brochure, spreadsheet, or even word document will clip the bottom portion off. For spreadsheets and word docs this can be worked around, but you shouldn't have to. For brochures and labels, and a whole lot of other things I have come across there is no work around, you just loose the bottom of your doc. This is especially frustrating because the printer can physically print to then end of the page it you trick it into thinking the paper is larger than it really is. But some idiot at HP wrote the software to tell it to stop at point x.
I've had other problems with it, usually not until I need a document to print for quickly because I'm under the clock. This printer can be consistently counted on to fail when you really need it to work. Do yourself a favor and keep looking!
Digital camera Review: It works alright most of the time Summary: 3 Stars
This printer works sufficiently most of the time but I'm not as pleased with it as I was with my old HP Deskjet 950.
The first D4260 printer I ordered had to be sent back because it wouldn't work due to some malfunction with the enclosed printer cartridge. This second one I've had for about 3 months and it does an OK job of printing with one particularly annoying exception.
If your paper isn't perfectly flat and inserted just right, it will jam - at least mine does. There is a back door on the printer you can take off to help clear the jam but it did me no good. I had to pull out the paper by force and pick the shredded bits out of the machine afterward. Then after I replaced the back door it kept telling me I had an open door and I finally had to unplug and start over.
The other negative is that I have already had to replace the black printer cartridge. I've probably printed out less than 30 pages in total in the short time I've had it.
On the positive side, it has decent print quality for every day printing tasks and it was relatively inexpensive.
Digital camera Review: Love this product! Summary: 4 Stars
Couldn't believe Amazon's price on this HP 4260 Printer! I've seen this same printer for as much as $129. Amazon's price: Under 40 bucks! And on top of that my experience with it so far has exceeded my expectations. All the on-line reviews led me to it. Been looking for this printer at the right price for about six months now and Amazon came through for me again.
Digital camera Review: Most Frustrating Printer I've EVER owned Summary: 1 Stars
1. Uses up ink like water under a bridge
2. Paper Feed is terrible - grabs multiple sheets, partial sheets, partial prints - FRUSTRATING
3. HP Printers used to be reliable and just work... this is two in a row for me that are junk. Fool me once, fool me twice.... Oh Brother here I come!
