Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier (CB584A#A2L)Digital camera Review: Customer Service Chat Torture Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased the HP Deskjet F4180. I thought it was a bargain - $[...] plus there was a $[...] rebate bundled with a PC. Installing drivers is not hard but not easy either on my Vista PC - took 2 tries.
The only real problem was that the ink cartridge wouldn't print the color red. I went through all the usual self-help steps, reinstalling drivers, cleaning cartridge, running diagnostics, etc. It appeared to be a simple cartridge flaw. That is when I entered customer service chat hell ... the chat technician must be handling many chats because interval between each exchange was a couple minutes. I told him the steps I took, and then he lead me through everything I had done before at a very very slow pace. I know there are steps to follow but do they have to be repeated? Do I have to repeat these steps over > 1.5 hours because he is handling other problems simultaneously? There must be a better way. My great bargain wasn't such a great bargain.
p.s. after an hour and a half, the technician concluded it was a cartridge problem. they are sending a new one.
7/26/08 Follow-up: New ink cartridge never arrived. A return to chat and phone revealed I would have to purchase new ink cartridges and try these before they would refund either the cartridges or printer. Oh well, I will use this as a scanner and a lesson about the lack of HP customer support.
Digital camera Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I bought an HP F4180 because I liked the price and have had good experience with cheap printers before. I just wanted a basic printer and was glad to get one that did copies as well. So far, the experience has been rather bad. I only installed the black ink because I wanted to save the color one for when I really want to use color (you can do this with Lexmark printers). However, the printer is refusing to work for me. So, I'm about to give in and put the color one in. I was going to try to reinstall the drivers to see if there was an option there but I lost the drivers. I called the help line, but was dropped when my call was being transferred. They want your name, address and product serial number before they are willing to help with their hardware.
In all, I've had much better experience from Lexmark in recent years.
Digital camera Review: Disappointing HP 3-in-one printer Summary: 1 Stars
The scanner and copier work well. The printer does not. I have had to reinstall the software several times and finally gave up when it refused repeatedly to refer printing to a nonexistent fax. I no longer use the printer at all and have gone back to my Canon i80.
Digital camera Review: Does not work with Airport Extreme Base Station USB/Wireless Printing Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this printer because it looked great beside my new iMac. And i needed a small all-in-one design. That part was perfect. But it does not print plugged into the Airport Extreme Base Station USB or wirelessly. It actually printed from my PC laptop through the base station but not from the iMac. Another downside is the ink cartridges, they only hold 5ml of ink so they run out FAST.
Digital camera Review: Does very good printing Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this Hp deskjet all in one printer at a good price at Walmart. It copies, scans and prints quite well but it is noisy. When printing in the Draft/Economy, which is very fast, it shoots the paper on the floor! I jury rigged a box under the paper tray to hold the paper on my desk. That was before I noticed that flip up thing that's under the paper stack. It keeps the printed paper secure where it belongs. I think the basic guide could have given at least a bit more information on the functions of this Printer. At times it won't print. I notice in the task bar of my PC this unfamiliar icon whirling around in a green color. It will say that it's installing a device driver and now it's ready. It has done this many times.I clicked on Control panel, printers and now there are 3 Hp deskjet F4140 printers showing and one has the green check mark [copy3] meaning now this is the default. Now I have to set it up again for draft/economy printing which I use all the time. Very frustrating.
