Digital camera reviews of HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer (CB656A)Digital camera Review: Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier Summary: 4 Stars
I like this printer--good quality--and fast! I had an older model, so anything would be faster. But I'm impressed. What I'm not impressed with is the fact that it doesn't scan. I've read "rants" on Google for this product since purchasing it, and I guess you have to reinitialize it all the time to get it to scan, and I haven't done that yet. I only bought it for the printer, so that's awesome, and I'm not disappointed there.

Digital camera Review: Disappointing product - and it only gets worse Summary: 2 Stars
This is my 2nd HP printer purchase. HP uses nice big rollers to feed the paper which enables fewer paper jams and a longer printer life. In fact, my previous HP printer outlasted three Windows incarnations and was only put out to pasture when my new PC went to USB cabling. That printer, too, was a budget model.
However, this printer is sub-standard for my purposes of printing and archiving documents. The ink does not fuse to the paper very well at all. Highlighting text will make the ink run into blurriness and stain your highlighter. Rings of drink condensation on a table will also cause the ink to run. Even rubbing your finger on the print will cause smudging. I couldn't possibly risk printing envelopes with this machine. I am very sorry I purchased this product. I have always held HP in very high regard, but those days appear to be over as another giant of American industry provides a shoddy product.
Edit: More bad news. After buying and installing a new cartridge, I was able to print about 50 pages of black and white print. At $15 plus tax for the cartridge, that's about .25 per page. Outrageous! Amazon won't let me re-rate this turkey down to one star, but I would if I could. Pass on this one, people.
04/04/10 - It's dead, Jim.
Digital camera Review: Do Not Buy This Printer! Summary: 1 Stars
We have this printer because it came with the computer package (vista) we purchased. I think the reason it was "free" with our package and why it's so inexpensive to buy on it's own, is because you have to spend the $18.00/cartridge after very little amounts of printing. We don't do anything spectacular with our printer, just basic home use and still we are replacing the cartridges at least 2/month. Also, printed documents often get "sucked" back into the printer if you are printing multiple items, so you have to sit there while it's printing to move the paper.
Very frustrating and expensive in the long run!
Digital camera Review: Do not buy if you use Google Picasa!! Summary: 1 Stars
This purchase was a nightmare. When I went to install the software I was prompted to do the Easy Install (recommended) or Advanced. As an IT professional I usually choose the latter because a lot of installation packages will put on a lot of unnecessary junk. But I thought to myself, "this is a printer/scanner, what could it possibly install besides drivers?" BIG MISTAKE. I think it was like 500MB of junk. But besides that, after the install my Picasa program was rendered useless. And as you can imagine, not being able to access personal photos of my family and friends was nerve-wracking to say the least.
I uninstalled both packages and tried the Advanced install, with the plan of installing the drivers only. The minimum install was 250MB! That's ridiculous!!! Anyway, it resulted in the same issue, and a lot more time wasted time uninstalling and reinstalling my software.
My final effort was to Google this issue and sure enough I saw others describing the same imcompatibility. Such a shame, but I'm sorry, Picasa is the best photo management program out there and I'm not sacrificing that for a printer/scanner.
UPDATE
I returned the item and got the equivalent scanner/printer from Canon. The Canon Pixma MP470 Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printer. It's been excellent and exactly what I hoped for in a printer/scanner. No conflicts with my other software and the install was easy.
If you use Picasa, don't buy this HP printer. And if you don't use Picasa, don't buy it anyway.
