I was very happy with this printer until I started having printhead problems. I ordered and installed a new printhead and got the yellow flashing light that would not go away. I was ready to get a new printer when I decided as a last resort to try cleaning the holes that the printhead fits into with Windex on a q-tip. Now the original printhead works and the printhead health is rated "good" with a green circle, when before the cleaning it had a yellow circle.

This printer has all the right specs at an attractive price. When it works it's fast, handles paper well, and produces very nice output. The problem is "When it works".
I'm using this as a networked computer, and maybe I should expect HP's lower priced models to have sub-standard networking, but this pig is terrible. It randomly disconnects from the network, and often refuses to grab a new address and bind on startup. After several power-on/off cycles it eventually grabs an address and works as expected for a few hours, before it decides to quit talking.
Also, I wasn't able to find a simple printer driver from HP, they insist on installing a bunch of nanny-ware and garbage to help manage this asset. Let me assure you that, in my opinion, the value of an unclutterd system and clean network far exceeds the value of a third-rate printer. They don't force me to install this sort of garbage with their high-end printers, so why add it to the home user line?
So, after owning it for six months, I've just about run out the sample ink cartridges (and that says a lot more about the reliability of the product than the capacity of the ink cartridges!). When they're gone, the whole unit is going in the garbage. I'm buying a Tectronics next time.
For the record, I have two HP8515 printers as well as a second color printer running networked on the same router, and they all perform flawlessly. I've swapped cables and router ports without improvement. The problem is not the network, it's the stupid printer.

Out of the box the K5400 is much bigger than I anticipated. I added the duplex tray as well and am amazed at the size. Let me quickly say this is a solid buy and I've been very happy. It isn't for printing photos but it will print high quality documents very quickly. The speed and durability are as good as I've seen in this price range.
On the con-side, the size and sound are bigger and louder than I'd hoped for. For occasional use this is probably overkill. Ink seems to get used quickly but I've had success with both HP and generic ink cartridges.

I wouldn't bother writing a review for a printer that already has the worst reviews I've ever seen, but I've been fooling around with HP on a warranty claim for over an hour via chat. I don't know why I'm doing this since its pretty obvious that the printer is going to fail even if they send me a new printhead. I do know why I am writing this review.
1. To thank everyone who wrote such funny trashing reviews.
2. To tell everyone that the printhead has a long warranty period. The expiration date is on the printhead.
3. Now this is how it always works over time:
a. no problem
b. it's an unimportant, small problem that only a few irrational people have complained about.
c. we've got the problem fixed
d. we've got the problem fixed
e. we fixed the problem
f. ok, we've got a new team and they are going to fix the problem
g. ok, we've got a new team and they are going to fix the prproblem
h. no problem
Digital camera Review: Used in my office at work Summary: 4 Stars
We have this printer at the office to use for our publications and mailings. It is used by 20+ people on a daily basis. It seems to go through ink quickly, but with so much use that is expected. The IT guy installed it, but as far as I know he didn't have any issues. I haven't experienced any problems and we have had it for over a year now.. The quality isn't the greatest, but it fits the need for creating postcards and other publications.
