I have tried TWO HP laserjet compatible toner cartridges for my HP Laserjet 1018 and both were substandard and had to be returned for a refund to different companies. One froze my printer as soon as I put it in. The other printed unevenly. I now will only purchase ORIGINAL HP toner cartridges for my machine.Digital camera Review: Databazaar does it again! Kudos!!

I want to tell a story about this excellent company. I have never had a hand extended to me like this company did for me this past summer. I thought I had an empty toner cartridge so I ordered a generic cart from Databazaar in Miami. The printer was still telling me there was a toner cartridge problem. I ordered a second cartridge just to see if it was the refilled cart or my printer. After the second cart did not work I began my investigation. Scouring over the printer manual and working with Brother and their support department, there was no answer to the problem I had. Brother support then recommended me to take the printer to a local authorized repair center to check out. I thought, oh boy, I'll get a huge charge just for checking this thing out and then I would have been better off spending that money toward a new printer. I thought, what the heck. I called the local repair shop and they offer a free printer check. Wow! Okay, I'm on my way down. Turns out this company, Computer Corner here in Tampa, Florida has been around since the days of computer bulletin boards. I knew the owner, Gary, through the message bases back then. Okay, I leave the printer off for a couple of days as the tech is out of town. I get a call a few days later and the person was telling me that the printer is not economical to repair. I have heard those words before so I knew what I had to do. I drove down and picked up the broken printer and thanked the person at the counter for their service and headed home. I decided to try my luck and I emailed Databazaar when I got home and asked if I could return the unused but open package toner cartridges after explaining my printer is beyond repair. I was astounded that the owner replied back and said that wouldn't be a problem. I got a full credit refund back on my credit card and am happy to say that I have since done business with Databazaar with their fast shipping. Why go anywhere else now for my printer supplies, right? I did not know I received a defective toner cartridge from Databazaar until a number of months later (I ordered it in August 2009 and tried to use it in May 2010). There were two cartridges in my order - the first one made a scraping noise in the printer. The overall print quality was very light and the left side of the page was not readable. I checked it and shook it and reinserted it but it didn't work properly so I tried the other cartridge from the same order which worked fine (though the print could be darker).
I contacted Databazaar to ask for a replacement for the first cartridge and was informed that products need to be returned within 30 days. In other words, "we shipped you a defective product and now you're stuck with it."
I pointed out it was not possible for me to use two toner cartridges within 30 days in order to discover that one was defective and asked again for a replacement of the defective toner cartridge. The Databazaar customer support rep regretted to inform me "that since the order placed is far beyond the return policy so we would not be able to be of any further assistance. Incase of any further clarifications or future assistance please feel free to get in touch with us." In other words, "we shipped you a defective product, now you're stuck with it, we don't care, and you need to stop emailing me now."
I sent a final email which stated: "Fortunately for me as a customer, the kinds of products Databazaar sells are not hard to find. You have plenty of competitors who offer better customer service and agree that when they ship a defective product, they should replace it - not only to preserve future business but because it's the right thing to do.
Clearly I will never buy products from [Databazaar] again. I will advise my friends and colleagues not to purchase your products. I will post an unfavorable review on Amazon.com and on the Better Business Bureau's site. And if I can think of other ways to alert consumers about your shoddy products and terrible customer service, I certain will take those actions as well.
I also plan to print this correspondence and forward a copy to your customer service and marketing departments just so that someone in your management is aware that 30 days is an unreasonable amount of time in which to discover a product is defective. I am not going to open up everything I order and test it just to have it sit on a shelf outside of its protective packaging until I'm ready to use it. That is ridiculous."
So, here's the unfavorable review of Databazaar's products and customer service as promised. In the future, I'll be sure to stick with name brand products from reputable vendors. I bought the "HP-compatible" product on the strength of Amazon reviews that promised high quality for the low price. I remember thinking, "that sounds too good to be true." Turns out I was right.
