What a nightmare. I'm going to declare it a national holiday when I return this item.
Do a Google search online before you buy this item. You will see endless calls for help over missing drivers, challenges with installing software using XP, etc. I have considerable computer experience. Yet after I bought this All-in-One unit last weekend I spent 14 hours on the phone w/HP tech support and endless hours trying fixes of my own. They all gave me a different story. Then turned me over to the laptop division of HP saying it must be a problem w/my laptop. The laptop division, SURPRISE, sent me back to the printer division. I've tried all the 'fixes', ordered a new installation disk, reintalled software many times, new USB cable. Nadda. Still junk. Save yourself the frustration. I am keeping my old 'print only' printer. It's plug and play. If you have Windows XP Professional, this unit will NOT necessarily be 'Plug and Play.' Time to go give my old reliable printer a hug. The software, by the way, is a complete memory hog and takes forever to install.

I purchased the HP 5610 about a month ago (May 2007) because I was looking for an all in one with a flatbed scanner.
I'm not a big fan of exhaustive reviews so I'll opt for PROS and CONS
PRO
Extreme value for its collection of functions (Copy, Print, Scan, Fax)
Above Average color with photo prints
USB makes it more or less plug and play
Flat bed design makes it easy to scan books, old photos, diplomas and anything else you don't want to jam into a scan-feeder.
CON
My set didn't come with a USB cable (Had to use one from an older HP printer)
Compared to older HP models, printer cartridges aren't as large (which means more trips to the office supply store over time)
Overall, if you are considering using this printer for personal or small business duty, you've hit the jackpot. However,look elsewhere if you want something a little more heavy-duty.
Digital camera Review: Awesome inexpensive printer

I haven't done a whole lot of heavy printing yet, but my initial experiences have been great. Setup was easy, and scanning is INCREDIBLY easy - insert the document, press the Scan button, and you have options to scan into Word, a .tif file, Paint, and several other options depending on what you plan to do with the document - the program launches automatically on the computer. I also made some color copies of very detailed pages and they came out awesome. The only problem is that the printed pages have a 1/2 inch non-printable area at the top, so any documents that print to the edge of the page will be cut off. Otherwise, for an inexpensive printer, I'm very happy.
