Digital camera reviews of HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer

Digital camera Review: Driver too large
Summary: 2 Stars

Driver for this printer is 163mb. Driver for Canon Pixma is 10.3 mb. If only I had known!!

Digital camera Review: Drivers...
Summary: 2 Stars

The product appears to be everything one would want in a printer - the problem is the drivers. Not only do the drivers take 700+ MB of disk space which is outrageous, but they crash often. In addition, the programs that come with the printer are unstable. Good hardware, poor drivers make this a pass.

Digital camera Review: Durable All-in-One, Worth It Despite the Ink Cost
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an April 2009 edit: we have had our HP 6310 now for 2-1/2 years and it has scanned close to 1500 pages, copied many hundreds, faxed several hundred, and printed over 6000 pages, i.e., 12-15 reams, and is still plugging along just fine. It has worked well, e.g., scanning old financial records and both color and BW family photos into either pdf or jpg files. The ink is expensive, perhaps costing us $50 every three months or so, although we've recently switched to using after-market inks, which seem to work well and are considerably cheaper. The colors come out fine, and we also print out photos on special paper occasionally, which come out looking good. Overall, the versatility and durability, so far, of this unit, has made it a really worthwhile purchase.

Digital camera Review: Easy 5 Star Review on this one - fantastic printer!
Summary: 5 Stars

Replaced my Epson photo printer and Lexmark scanner with this all-in-one for less than the price of my Epson ink!

Several great features:

Ink: It's almost like it doesn't use ink. I never realized what an ink hog my Epson was until I went HP.

Price: Ridiculously low.

Scanner: I scan quite a lot. The flat bed or multipage feeder work great to easily create multipage PDFs, TIFs, others.

Software: Very user friendly and easy to configure default settings to to easily and continuously scan documents to an archive, which is what I do to stay mostly paperless in my office.

Draft printing: I use fast draft printing a lot to save ink when printing notes for myself that will be discarded later. This draft option is faster and more legible than other printers.

Overall, I don't see straying from HP in the future for printers.

Digital camera Review: Easy Mac Networked Printer
Summary: 4 Stars

This printer may be an ink hog (I'll reserve judgment on that), but the setup to connect the HP 6310 Printer to my router via Ethernet cable, and use it wirelessly with my Apple MacBook running OS 10.4.11.

For over a year I've been unable to use my old network printer setup due to changes in Apple's software (though it could be a configuration issue with my home network, my failure to sacrifice a goat before reinstalling the print server, or the phase of the moon - who knows?). At any rate, I decided that this printer would be the best solution to the problem, considering the age of my old HP 7130.

The new all-in-one has a considerably smaller footprint on the desk, though it is a less sturdy machine than the old 20-pound tank. I had installed the software from HP's website the night before the printer arrived, so the actual setup took less than 10 minutes, and the printer was recognized immediately.

Print quality is excellent, even at the most ink-stingy quality.
