Digital camera Review: Great Photo Printer - HUGE Ink Hog
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this printer because it was only $100. How could you go wrong getting a photo printer at that price? Until... you quickly run out of ink and realize that it costs a fortune to replace cartridges.

Before I go into the ink, I have to say that the photo quality is great. I use HP photo paper and I love how the colors are so bright and the images are so crisp.

I really like that I can print 4x6 borderless prints on 4x6 paper. It can also print up to 8x10.

This printer has 5 ink cartridges: cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and photo black. If you are in printing or design, you may know that all full color printed pieces are made up of the first four colors. The addition of photo black gives a rich, deep black and creates better contrast. The combination of these inks makes for a great print.

However, the ink disappears from the cartridges very quickly and at about $15 a cartridge (times 5 cartridges...) You can buy XL cartridges at a higher price that last quite a bit longer and you can buy combo packs at a slight discount.

This printer has the ability to print on (printable) CD's and has a dedicated slot for insertion of the blank CD.

The bottom line is that this gives me the ability to print at random and very quickly. I took it to a tea party I held for my daughter. I took photos of all the girls in their party dresses (and white gloves) and while they were decorating picture frames, I printed out the pictures and they left the party with a great memento. I did not need to bring a computer since this printer has card slots built in. There is also a little touch screen display that walks you through color correction, cropping, etc. if you want that control at the printer and not the computer.

HP has great software tools and a low toner reminder system. There are two trays, a 4x6 single print tray and an 8.5 x 11 tray. I'm pretty sure it costs more to print from this printer than to take your images to other stores.

I really like this printer but it is a convenience product, not a money saver.

Digital camera Review: Great choice
Summary: 5 Stars

I down graded on setup because I'm not that good at technical stuff. It is quite noisy and it takes a little before it prints, but it's an HP, inexpensive and prints great, thats just what I wanted.

Digital camera Review: Great for printing on CD/DVDs provided...
Summary: 3 Stars

As a few reviewers have commented before, this printer's default software for direct printing on DVDs and CDs is terrible! However, if you use SureThing CD Labeler v5 software, you have the best combination for printing on them. I'm using Vista 64 Home Premium edition and have no issues with the printer, also I updated the software immediately online which probably saved me for potential headaches. On my PowerMac, the printer works great, expect I can't print on DVDs, but at least my PC can with SureThing's 15 day trial software.

I have been searching for an affordable and reliable printer that can direct print on DVDs. I thought about Dymo DiscPainter but their price was too high, most reviews on Amazon are very poor, and it's been discontinued too. Epson was the only direct DVD printers I knew available in the U.S.A. and most Epson users are not to happy with them. Luckily, I found a few positive reviews about this HP printer and jumped at the chance to try it myself; very happy with the results so far.

Update: Nov. 22, 2009

Ok, for printing on DVDs it's great and paper but forget envelopes! The darn thing constantly jams every time I try to print one. So, I can't believe this printer can do everything but envelopes. Oh, I haven't printing any photos yet. But for now I'll keep it because I print a lot of DVDs but now I'm considering a label printer.

Digital camera Review: Great photo printer
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the photosmart printer for my daughter-in-law and her husband for Christmas. They needed a printer for photos from their wedding. They love it. I bought it because I had purchased one for myself and enjoyed the ease of using it both for pictures and regular printing. Love that I can insert my card from my camera and print.

Digital camera Review: Great photo printer, finally!
Summary: 5 Stars

I currently have 3 HP printers. One is a cheap model for black and white document printing and one was for photos and my third is this new printer, the HP Photosmart D7560. The cheap model produces sharp black and white documents and surprisingly good quality color, the photo printer started giving me trouble a few months after I bought it and still, after many tries, I cannot get it to print decent color photos. It constantly need re-alignment and cleaning at at best, does a terrible job. Now, enter the D7560. In a word, SUPERB! So far, and I've only had this a month, all prints from 3x5 to 8x10 have amazing detail and color depth. Finally, HP has given me software, that actually loaded easily, and works great with that printer. OP system - VISTA. I especially like the ability to insert my camera chip into the printer, review, print and save the images via the printers screen, quite user friendly. Printing is swift and generally quite. Printer does dance a little when the print heads are moving quickly, less dancing when printing at high quality since the print head is moving more slowly. For the regular computer users this is an easy to load and user photo printer. For the techno geeks, I can't find anything negative just yet. I will probably know more when ink levels get low or I have a paper jam or when I'm trying to print extreme levels of detail. If you trust Consumers Report and CNET, they rate this printer very high, especially at the price. One other feature I like - on my less than adequite other photo printer you have to manually move the 3x5 photo paper holder into place for printing 3x5. This model is smart enough to pull the 3x5 holder into place for printing and then moves it back to its original place. I use to forget about mvong the 3x5 holder back into its original place on the other printer and wasted a few 3x5 photo cards when this happened. Haven't tried the DVD printer portion yet and haven't set it up for wireless. Shipping was great from Beach.
