Digital camera reviews of HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld (FA979AA#ABA) (110 Series)Digital camera Review: But the box says iPaq 110 Summary: 3 Stars
The iPaq just arrived, but the box clearly says 110 not 111 as shown on this page. Anybody know what this is all about?
Digital camera Review: Can't beat this pocketpc for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using a Toshiba PocketPC for the past few years, and was quite content with what I was able to do with it, until my battery finally went dead, and I started shopping around for an upgrade. I didn't realize what I was missing until I got this iPAQ. It's speedy, small, and has the best synchronization you can get for a Windows PC to a PDA in the market. It has added tools that I really don't use, but plenty of memory to add the programs I need. Bluetooth integration with my phone and computer, and wifi to hook up into any local network I might be roaming on. Great battery life, and to top it off, it comes with a nice leather case which keeps its small profile.
I miss having a jog-wheel on my PDA, although I really used that for scrolling and for fast-forwarding through music. I would have liked a VGA screen on my PDA, but honestly that only benefits you if you're watching video or looking for hi-res pics. And the screen is not as sensitive as my Toshiba, so I have to get used to a different stylus usage.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase, and seeing that there are so few vendors that now make Pocket PC's, I'm so glad that there is such a great product out there that meets my needs. I like having a separate PDA and a smaller phone (don't like crowding the pants when I'm going out), and this lets me carry any additional information and use programs with a larger screen when I'm at work.
Digital camera Review: Cautionary note on the Marvell WiFi in the iPaq 111 Summary: 3 Stars
A cautionary note for anyone looking to use the iPaq 111 as a WiFi scanner or survey tool -- the WiFi driver does NOT properly report the channel to any of the common scanning utilities.
The Marvell SDIO8686 chipset reports the channel as "858512" for all channels. If you are relying on the unit as a survey tool, you are going to end up with bad data. A case opened with HP Support 4/22/08 has only gotten a "we'll look into it" response, and a hint that their might be a firmware update "coming soon".
If you rely on your scanner/stumbler/surveyor, make sure you try your utilities out first before buying this unit!
Digital camera Review: Customer Service Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased a PDA and paid extra to get the product deliver the next day. The product did not arrive the next day. I received a phone call from Amazon.com as I soon as I posted my previous opinion. The man who called me was very defensive about my review. He promised to give me a refund for my postage ($19). I was on my way out the door when the man called. He promised to contact me in the afternoon to show me via internet how to get my refund. I did not receive a call back, nor received a refund.
Digital camera Review: Defective USB Cable Summary: 3 Stars
After working for an hour trying to sync the iPAQ with my PC I determined that the supplied USB cable was defective. The cable charged the unit just fine but did not function properly for communication. The iPAQ functioned perfectly after using a different USB cable (note: there is an April 2008 firmware update for this unit).
The use of ActiveSync and Outlook for this unit is troublesome since both of these programs are typical MS bloatware. A thin sync client and contact manager would be preferred.
Other than the problem(s) above, this unit is a slick and easy to use PDA with all the basic functions of a PDA with extras such as Wi-Fi.
If you are having trouble syncing or charging this unit, change the USB cable.
