Digital camera reviews of HP iPAQ hx2795 Pocket PC (FA676B#ABA)Digital camera Review: A complete waste of plastic! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to replace my Ipaq hx4705, which I used for 3 years for business purposes (medical office). For 3 months, since I got it, I have been constantly working with the geeks at HP on the bugs in this computer (all known to HP but they won't admit that; however, their support site is covered with complaints exactly like mine). The HP support folks have had me completely update the BIOS (didn't work) and do various and other sundry "fixes" which have not fixed one thing but did cost me a ton of time on the phone and the time to reinstall the (few) programs that I need to work. I only use this computer to run two things: ePocrates software and I keep a running word document (one per day) with a patient list on it--that's IT. Here's what this computer does constantly: The screen, when you close a program, is often missing whole blocks that show the previous screen underneath. Word Mobile will not save a newly edited document because it says you have no space--I have oodles of space so it's clearly a bug; gives you an error message; you have to discard your newly edited portion, close the document then reopen it (at which time it'll say you have enough space--ridiculous! This only happens about 33% of the time, so it's not even consistent in it's bugginess. There is no mobile printing on this; if you want to send something to a printer, you have to use your bluetooth or find your own mobile printing solution because WM 5.0 is not compatible with mobile printing (though most sites advertising this computer say it comes with it--IT DOESN'T). This is my third Ipaq (all purchased for work use so I know very well how to use it) so trust me--PASS ON THIS ONE!
Digital camera Review: A little moving office Summary: 4 Stars
This product combine great design, technology, and versatility to organize your office, little business, and some home subjects. I love the wireless internet connection and the Bluetooth, also the big screen, in order to enjoy some videos, and the sound is not so bad if you use the stereo output.
I think is a great option instead of the expensive pocket PCs with a QWERTY Keyboard if you want to feel a Windows atmosphere and if you want to combine it with a notebook.
Digital camera Review: Another New Coke? Summary: 3 Stars
This is the closest model to my old iPaq (2200 series) which finally just wore out physically (still functioned fine). This one doesn't seem to have the handwriting feature for notes which I really miss. The display screen is very crisp with vivid color and the battery lasts much longer than the old model.
I am experiencing considerable issues with hot syncing with Outlook 2007. Earlier versions work fine. If this coordination is critcal for you and you're using Outlook 2007, you would probably do well to spare yourself the grief and choose a different pocket PC.
The built-in hard plastic screen cover is a nice touch and I have not felt the need to purchase the optional carrying case for protection.
Digital camera Review: BEFORE INSTALLING ANYTHING, UPDATE THE BIOS Summary: 4 Stars
(Originally intended title was "It makes the iPod look like a complete waste of $$$...harsh but true")
I have been using my Ipaq hx2795b for a couple of months now, and at first it did have frequent freeze-ups and battery draining issues, especially when using the SD card. But once I updated the BIOS (ROM) to the latest version (you can find it at hp's website), everything works smoothly ever since. Also remember to use the latest version of ActiveSync (4.2 so far), and not the one that comes with the installation CD, and try to use the sync with MS Office Outlook 2003 instead of Office 2002 on your PC/laptop. For the above inconveniences, I'm taking one star off the rating. I believe that's about it, and you're all set to start installing tons of software on your Ipaq.
I use it literally for EVERYTHING (well, phone and camera excluded) -that is, agenda, customer database, ebooks, reference books, review powerpoint presentations, wi-fi, email, msn messenger, bluetooth, watch videos (you can watch entire DVD movies on it, after encoding of course), music (in my opinion it sounds even better than the iPod, was it the earphones?), games, anyway, you name it. I find the Windows Mobile 5 OS quite stable, and the interface feels pretty much the same as using the ordinary desktop Windows. The speed is impressive too. Battery life is good and it charges fast. The display is bright and clear, though I would have preferred a slightly larger screen. The fingerprint reader device is cool. I personally don't use it though, because it delays the otherwise instant power-on of the handheld, but it stands as a great security feature for sure.
Some recommended accessories to enhance your Ipaq are: SD card (i'm already using 70% of its 2GB storage capacity, so I'll soon be looking for an additional CF card; I think it's less cumbersome to have both cards simultaneously in the handheld than to have to switch cards using the same slot), an extra sync/charger/car adapter (I have the BELKIN Ipaq Sync Charger F8Q0003HP), a leather carrying case, and of course, screen adhesive overlays. Some useful or must-have software are: Adobe Reader for PPC, iSilo, Resco explorer, Resco photo viewer, Resco audio recorder, Resco radio, Clearvue presentation, spb Pocket Plus, Trancreative Magic Button, Touch Notes, Pocket informant, TCPMP the core pocket media player (it plays every format that the Windows Media Player doesn't, which are a bunch).
Overall, I'm very happy with my Ipaq hx2795b. For those thinking to own a handheld for the first time but have put off till now (like myself), this is the right moment to do it. The technology in handhelds, both hardware and software-wise, has reached to a level of reliable stability, that makes it worthy enough to try on one of these literally do-it-all gadgets.
Digital camera Review: Better than its counterparts Summary: 4 Stars
I have used other handheld ppcs and PDAs and this product is several steps ahead since it combines the best features that other products offer singly (limited, or at the expense of other functions).
A user can maximize its utility as an electronic notebook with a bluetooth keyboard. It also helps the user do away with all of those scrap-paper notes (that easily gets lost/misplaced). A messaging software for ppcs could also expand its functions.
I have been using this product for more than 5 months now and only once have I found the need to re-boot it. I just wish that it could handle higher storage capacity SDs (greater than 2MBs), especially for users who makes a lot of ppt presentations. Along with softwares, maybe HP could also develop useful accessories for this product (camera) for "on-the-road" users (e.g., field reporters, surveyors).
