Digital camera reviews of HQRP Replacement Battery for iPod mini (1st and 2nd Generation) Kit - 750 mAh plus HQRP Universal Screen ProtectorDigital camera Review: Keep the Click Wheel Alive!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The replacement battery brought my 1st Gen iPod Mini back to life. Yes...it is sickening seeing the postage stamp sized iPod Nanos with twice the storage as my Mini, but, I am able to keep my personalized Mini going for a few more "clicks" (saving dollars for my gas tank!). For those a little weary about cracking open an electronic device and making repairs...do not worry. YouTube has a couple of short videos giving you step-by-step directions on the battery replacement process.
Digital camera Review: May be time-consuming BUT saves serious $$ Summary: 5 Stars
I admit that putting in this battery is a little time-consuming and a very detailed work, BUT considering how much this little battery set cost vs. how much it costs to ship the ipod back to Apple, it is WORTH IT. Make sure you follow the instructions very carefully. I probably got it done it less than an hour. I successfully replaced the battery and went from my ipod lasting less than 30 minutes to it lasting for 8 hours plus.
Digital camera Review: My iPod Mini is back! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered the iPod Mini Battery Replacement Kit from The Battery Center which took roughly a week to arrive in the mail. Under the recommendation of several other Amazon reviewers, I skipped the packaged directions and went directly to Cnet.com for video instructions on how to replace the battery. The step-by-step video instructions were very easy to follow and took me no more than 10 mins to replace the battery.
Recommendation - before putting your iPod back together, make sure to remove all dust particles that may have gotten within the interior sections of the iPod, especially from the iPod's viewing screen. Otherwise you're going to have to look at a bunch of dust each time you use your iPod, plus I'm pretty sure having dust within the interior of the iPod isn't good.
Con - removing the plastic from the top and bottom of the iPod with the flathead screwdriver did damage my iPod a little bit. You have to be very patient as it will take some time to pry off. I'm someone who takes very good care of my electronics so I was disappointed about that.
Digital camera Review: New battery still works after 2 years Summary: 5 Stars
I actually bought this 2 years ago to replace my iPod battery (which I later learned wasn't dead, but my cord was the problem) and it still works well today. Not sure on the ease of use. iPods suck for replacing batteries. I'm just glad my iPod works! The caps of my iPod are less sturdy than before, but I think that's an inevitability of the iPod's design.
Digital camera Review: New life for your iPod Mini, but know what you're getting into Summary: 5 Stars
I knew it was time for a new battery when my iPod Mini would barely hold a charge for 1 day. After installing this battery, my Mini is as good as new. This kit would still be a bargain at double its price.
HOWEVER, know what you're getting into before purchasing. Opening the iPod case and replacing the battery is not an easy task. It's not even remotely similar to replacing the battery in a cell phone or even a smoke detector. You need to have a very steady hand and be able to follow instructions perfectly. One slip of a tool and you'll easily kill iPod.
The kit helpfully includes all the tools you need. I highly recommend not just reading, but STUDYING the instructions carefully before getting started. If you're one of those "who needs instructions?" types of people, this is not for you. Really. If I haven't scared you off by now, and you're normally comfortable working with tiny tools and screws, then go for it.
