Digital camera reviews of Hauppauge 1120CN WinTV-HVR-950 Hybrid Video RecorderDigital camera Review: Far from ready for prime time Summary: 3 Stars
Software out of the box, 12/06 release, does not work, even with the suggested updates from their web site. Documentation is limited with key settings not fully explained. Recording is 8GB per hour. Support 'appears' to rely heavily on the user community to help each other. I don't recommend getting support via email if you need immediate help. Although helpful, you can expect replies only once every 7 -9 days. In retrospect, a $150 15" HDTV with UHF antenna would provide the same mobility/result (viewing free OTA HD) with no hassle. Bottom line, this is not a product for novices.
Digital camera Review: Good Purchase Summary: 4 Stars
Works as expected. Runs a little warm. Gives great picture and sound. Software could use some work. Would like to have a viewable channel listing.
Digital camera Review: Good TV Tuner Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing TV Tuner. I live the HD TV quality over the air with this device and I highly recommend it if you are in range of HD antennas. If you are over 15 miles, it doesn't work as well, but it is worth the money.
Digital camera Review: Good Value, particularly on the road Summary: 4 Stars
I got this for around $60 with a [...] rebate and would recommend if you get the rebate. Just got a Slingbox Pro, so the jury is out on whether the Slingbox makes this obsolete. I've used it twice on the road and do not recommend unless you've got a decent laptop. I've used it to pull a news segment from my DISH PVR to a MPEG file but haven't tried it with large recordings on DISH PVR. I also get the impression that this thing makes HUGE files compared to other alternatives.
If you get it for less than [...], it may be a good novelty item for laptops. My impression is that technology will soon come out with something (probably more expensive) better. Again, if you need something on the cheap that is reasonable quality, get it.
Digital camera Review: Good as/better than PCI cards. Summary: 4 Stars
Have two that work well a) on iMac (from EyeTV using their software), b) as 2nd ATSC reciever with XP Media Center Edition (MCE) or on vanilla XP (latter running Hauppage software which is not as user friendly; Beyond TV works if you like it). Reception seems as good as or better than AverMedia A180 HDTV card. Both take advantage of (MCE requires such hardware) AverMedia 1500 MCE card MPEG encoding.
