Digital camera Review: Awesome product and company......
Summary: 5 Stars

Once set up this is a great product. I use it with my Mac Mini, and the remote that came with my Mac lets me change channels and volume. I had a rebate and the company processed it themselves quickly instead of outsourcing it to limbo. The antenna that comes with it is crappy. What you need to receive digital over the airwaves is a decent UHF antenna. You can find instructions on the web to make one yourself. After building my antenna I get a lot of channels with great reception.

Digital camera Review: Cheaper at amazon.com
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this for about $70 from amazon.com. On its product information, it is said that this one for Mac won't decode cable digital signal (the Clear QAM thing), while a more expensive model with Clear QAM support costs about $99 at the other places. I am surprised to learn that in fact the one I received DO support Clear QAM. There is a letter Q after the model number WinTV-HVR-950Q; it is a white color version of the same Windows model, but with bundled EyeTV software for Mac. I am happy that I didn't pay that extra $30 premium for a feature I probably never need (if I have digital cable, it's likely encrypted), but can come handy just in case.

Digital camera Review: Did not work for me
Summary: 3 Stars

I have Time Warner Digital Cable and do not use a Cable Box. I have the coax going straight to my TV. I disconnected the cable from my TV and connected it to the USB stick, then the USB stick to the computer after loading the Eye TV Light software and following the steps. It would not get 1 channel. Not sure what the reason is behind it but you can't put your cable directly into the computer with this device. You have to use a cable box and change the channels with the cable box remote. Silly.
It's easy to blame the cable company but I think they are the ones who prevent you from doing things the easy way. Why would I need to use a cable box to watch TV on my computer? My TV doesn't need one. By the way, I am using a Mac Pro (Early 2009) and 10.5.6. I returned the TV stick.

Digital camera Review: Does as advertised.

I originally wrote this review while I was having issues with the product, read below for more information. The problem has since been fixed, whether on Apple's side or Elgato, I don't really care. But it now works just fine. I have used this connected to an antenna while visiting family and the only problem I had with signal was my distance from the source.

I wish it was more programmable out of the box. I think the software for the Mac is very good, but it is crippled just enough to annoy. This software is meant to show what is possible and hint at what the full package can do, not necessarily to do.

[Old review - left for any useful information that may be present]

I got this for Christmas for use with my MacBook [2GHz Core 2 Duo w/ 2GB RAM]. I do have Leopard (factory) installed. I am using the included EyeTV Lite software. I do have a fair knowledge of computers and trouble shooting, so the problem is more then just an improperly installed device/software.

The device comes with a small antenna to pick up digital broadcasts, which is able to catch the local stations nicely. When I use it in this manner (watching broadcast digital TV) there are no problems, beautiful picture that stays good for the duration of use. But the device also connects to your analog cable (coaxial) and composite (through a USB device included), and allows you to watch TV.

Problem fixed, but never did receive any communication from Haupage or Elgato

This is where I have a problem. I have been in touch with both Hauppage and Elgato (EyeTV) in an attempt to remedy the problem, later on their responses.

The problem is if I am not using a mouse, or let my mouse idle for 5-10 seconds I get lines on the display. I had hoped that this was just a minor issue and that when I recorded the lines would not appear. I was wrong. The lines are reasonably thin, but are many, and appear to be the TV image shifted 30-50% to the side. If I wiggle the mouse, the lines disappear, but if I have no mouse connected the lines do not disappear at all. I have updated the Elgato software to it's current version (1.1) but without any effect.

Since the problem only shows when I let my mouse idle, it seems likely to be a software issue. I sent messages to both Hauppage and Elgato as previously stated, received from both an automated response to show that they had gotten the message. Neither company associated with this product was overly helpful. Hauppage responded in a few days saying they had not heard of this before, but that it sounded like a software issue and directed me to Elgato. From what I can tell, I agree; though could simply be blaming the other guy. I sent Elgato my plea for help over a week ago, and have yet to receive anything other then the automated reply. Poor service indeed.

Digital camera Review: Easy set-up, Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

The Hauppauge HD TV Stick for Mac is great. I bought this to use up in my bedroom for my Mac Mini, hooked up to a 24" 16:9 monitor. I installed the software, followed the on-screen instructions about when to plug the stick into my Mac Mini, and searched for channels using the included antenna. It found all the channels I wanted in my area, plus some of the more obscure ones.

To compare, I have a Terk Amplified antenna hooked up to my downstairs 46" Samsung HDTV, and this Hauppauge set-up is actually more stable than that one.

The included software is fantastic. It includes a free registration with Titan TV and all I need to do is go online and it downloads the TV guide for me. I click on the shows I want to record and that's that. I was using my computer as a DVR to watch House and Bones, and all the shows that I wanted.

Saving them for future burning/archiving is also very easy.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to make their computer into a second TV.
