Digital camera Review: "No Signal" screen

My previous job was a Geek Squad techie at Best Buy. Now I work at as an IT at a private firm. So I know my way around and through electronics and what not. I planned to use the HD-PVR Hauppauge 1212 to mainly record my Xbox 360 game play and television shows. I have a Windows 7, HP Laptop, 4 gigs of ram, (do not want to get into much detail) and installed an OK graphics card. I have a 46' Samsung HDTV and a Halo 3 Edition (250gb hdd) Xbox 360.
Everything was connected and installed correctly. I even installed the latest drivers from the Hauppauge support website. In the total media extreme software, only a black screen appeared. On my TV, a "No signal" screen appeared. I did some research and spent more money trying to get this thing to work. I tried new component cables and a new usb cord. I uninstalled all the programs and drivers, then reinstalled them again. I even tried using a supply source out of my room into a different room (suggestion from the Hauppauge forums). None of these worked, so my thought was a faulty unit.
A couple of days later I receive my "new" HD-PVR. Same problem again. "No signal" screen. I did everything above again and still no luck.
I was really hoping to use this from all the reviews and videos I have seen of the quality. The only thing I noticed that was different from the two HD-PVR's is that the component cables were black. In all the pictures and videos of other ones, they have grey component cables? Maybe not a big deal, but just something to point out. If anyone else has the same experience but found a reasonable solution send me a email or message! Thanks Amazon.
