Digital camera reviews of Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video RecorderDigital camera Review: Amazing device with some annoying flaws Summary: 4 Stars
received mine 3 days ago and after 3 days of testing here is my finds
The good : The HD capture is flawless crystal clear video when you record with highest bit rate 13.5 average and 20.5mpbs at peaks (I ended up with 15-16mbps average and never saw it higher than 17) also pretty much any pc can record HD videos with it because recording happens on the hd pvr not the PC,audio is in sync too, some people had problems though so download latest driver and update the software and you should have no problems (If you had problems after doing that it means your pc hardware cant playback HD videos very well so it drop frames/audio)
The Bad : The software to record videos with it is perfect for recording but it have few annoying stuff, you can not capture and view in full screen, you can not change brightness/color/sharpness/etc before you record the option is there but they do not work, also there is no mute button so if your HD PVR is on and you want to use your pc you have to mute your whole pc because there is no mute button for the software,
Some notes : The Component cable that comes along with it is so small so does the power supply cable and even the usb cable.... everything is about 1 meter long so yeah... you will end up having your HD PVR+pc+hdtv all near each other or you need to buy new cables >.>
Overall i'm happy with the device and the recording quality is better than the youtube HD samples by a mile and its super smooth (I record 1280x720p60) with 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio
Digital camera Review: Amazing. Summary: 4 Stars
Before I get into this review, I just want to talk about what I am using the product for. Like many other people I bought this HDPVR for recording video games, specifically MW2. Now I used to play in 1080p for as long as I can remember, so having to switch down to 720p was kind of annoying, but it wasn't that big of a factor. I set it up correctly within 30 minutes and had started recording. One thing that I love about the program it comes with is the converter. The converter allows you to easily convert any of your videos straight into mp4s and still maintain the quality, and because I wanted to upload these videos to YouTube this was pretty important. Overall the product is great at what it does, but can confuse some people. I actually had a friend which wanted to record as well. He bought this product, but ended up buying a dazzle because he got too confused. It has a few comfort faults, one of which is the fact that you have to turn it on just for the video to get through even if your not recording. I would recommend this product to anyone if you are somewhat advanced at using this stuff or not, it comes with instructions and all.
Digital camera Review: Apple users think twice? Summary: 4 Stars
Well as everyone on here wanted a perfect smooth easy way to get your computer too start recording your shows or your super skilled gaming. First of all if you use an Apple computer just know that their will be some more green bills coming out of your pockets. You will need software for your computer too be able to use this on their. But once you have it working you should have no problem at all. The quality of the videos(gaming for me) are just outstanding with some editing. Overall I don't know why i did not purchase this first rather than a cheap Dazzle. This has been giving me HD videos since I got it too work. Its overall easy too set up in a PC but not for a MacBook. Once you have that down then you are set. Everything is done right inside the box(hauppauge) such as processing. The files for the video come as m2ts videos so have fun trying to get those too work. I would suggest if you are going to edit them for gaming just trying using m2ts directly with the program to edit (i use Sony Vegas Pro 10). Sound quality is great never heard something so clear from something like this product. You could connect your Dish or some other type of box using provider. I have not yet tried to connect it but will try too soon just to be able to give an idea of this. The package comes with multiple items, it comes with a remote, Component cables, radar thingy(not going to lie i dont know what it does), then the box, usb cable. Their is probably more but im going off memory. Overall I cant say much about it, but the item is great it has its faults like every other product in the world I would recommend this and then i wouldnt but the truth is that its up too the person. Im satisfied with the quality of it. Hope this helps some not a great reviewer but its something. :)
Digital camera Review: ArcSoft Software Stinks Summary: 4 Stars
The unit works as advertised, it needed the latest USB drivers which were available on the Hauppage web site. I have not experienced any of the heat related and not lockups... The unit is Rev. D2 and runnig the latest USB official drivers. It is cool to the touch after an hour or so of capturing and the box has vents at the bottom.
The ArcSoft software is another story... I reformatted the PC attached to the HDPVR because I could not make it work. WinXP Pro x32 reinstallation with SP3 only, with the proper drivers installed and it still refused to display the preview correctly (squashed image). Once in a while it still freezes the display although the HDPVR keeps recording. Go figure...
Overall I am satisfied with the purchase, I'll wait for better software or an alternative the the one included.
Digital camera Review: As good as I had hoped. Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, i am using this to record gameplay footage from my Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. I couldn't be any happier with this product. Setup is a breeze and configuring it to get the best results takes no time at all. The only real complaint is that, for what it does, the device is quite pricy. Other than that, what are you waiting for? Pick this up and get recording.
