Digital camera reviews of Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder

Digital camera Review: Delivered with Garbage for software
Summary: 1 Stars

I spent half a day trying to get the Hauppauge going on a new Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, a new ACER Aspire running Windows XP. The Hauppague drivers failed to load on two older XP systems without service pack 3.
I downloaded all updates for all hardware and software involved. The supplied ArcSoft software could not open the directory where the recorded file was on either system for playback. On the XP system Media Player Classic will play back the recorded video file. On the Windows 7 machine, the sound would not play. Technical support was of no help. Arcsoft also has a non standard user interface which leads to the suggestion that ArcSoft learn how to make plain vanilla working software before trying to invent a new user interface. It is amazing that Hauppauge would deliver a product that probably never worked properly. The included CD does not contain any software for playing back what's recorded.

Digital camera Review: Did not work. Period.
Summary: 1 Stars

Received my HD PVR unit in the mail yesterday, I connected it to my Xbox 360 unit and the unit failed to loop the video onto the TV. I tried almost everything humanly possible (Toning down the video on the 360 to 1080i, then to 720p, Replugging in wires, turning the unit off and on, switching wires, plugging in different wires) short of buying brand new component cables and switching entire TV units. It also failed to loop the signal onto my nearby laptop, which was the only computer I could hook it to since the product ships with an insanely short USB cable, the Component cables are even worse. Installed the included software and set it up exactly how the Hauppauge manual suggests to no avail. I know for a fact that I'm installing it correctly, as I've watched several videos on how to do the exact same set up.

Figuring I was shipped a defective unit, I had to call customer support, which means waking up even earlier for work since I live on the west coast and they're in NY, but that didn't bother me. What did bother me was the tech support person I was in contact with, who was exasperated by me just asking him to repeat the shipping address. Not to mention that I'm supposed to mail this product now to them, not only paying for shipping and tracking costs for a $200 paperweight that didn't work, but I also have to wait for them to 'test' the unit out, as if I just like to spend money on products that are perfectly fine just to send it to them on my dime so they can see if I'm lying or not.

I'm still weighing the pros and cons of shipping it to New York on my flippin' dollar or just sending this junk back to Amazon, but from my experience it would be VERY hard to recommend this product and anything from Hauppauge to anyone.

Digital camera Review: Didn't work with OS X...at first
Summary: 4 Stars

i had bought one of these under the impression that it could be used in Mac OS X with 3rd party software like HDPVRCapture and EyeTV. while that is true, the HD-PVR i got was aparently a brand new version of the hardware that both of those programs didn't support. after talking to the makers of EyeTV and HDPVR Capture, they both ended up sending me beta builds of their software with updated product IDs and then i was finally able to use the recorder. so i guess this is just a weird circumstance that i got into but as of this writing, you can in fact use the HD-PVR on Mac OS X with those two software programs since they have been updated. it wasn't so easy for me at first though.

Digital camera Review: Disapointing
Summary: 1 Stars

I heard a lot of good things about this device and I bought it to record PS3 MW2 matches. I always get nukes so I wanted to show them. The first day it came I was very excited but it was terrible. The quility was black and white and very blurry. I got a few nukes and couldnt record. Amazon have always been good but this is discraseful.I paid a lot. Be careful ordering devices from other countries. VERY camera Review: Doesn't capture D-VHS tape
Summary: 1 Stars I have a few hundred D-VHS tapes, and with the demise of this format I wanted to create the best DVD copies of this material, hoping the Hauppauge 1212 would do the trick. Alas, the 1212 did not recognize the code of the D-VHS tapes. End of story. Money wasted. Unless someone out there knows a trick on how to overcome this problem...
