The HDR-610 I bought 11 months ago has developed problems with one month to go on the factory warranty. Let's see if they make good.
The unit I bought has a "puck" transducer and the boat maker provided a spot near the transom for just such an installation. The manufacturer smoothed the rough inside fiberglass surface for an area the puck can be mounted within (thanks, Stingray Boats !).
Installation went well, and I added a power switch to disconnect the unit when at anchor. The back-lit dial draws current, and so does the unit itself, so switching off the power externally makes sense to not kill the battery.
Symptom: Unit will not take accurate readings while underway. It posts numbers in the 500s when I know the water is 70 feet or less. When I idle or am at anchor, it reads fine. The problem shows up regardless of forward speed or whether the water is rough or flat.
The only topic that could apply to my case in the troubleshooting guide is a possible pinched cable. The book says the cable is vulnerable to even the slightest damage. None found, from transducer to dashboard.
So, I shall report back here what Humminbird offers for satisfaction.
